New breeds for EV?

#81068 Posted on 2016-12-19 21:30:42

New breeds for Equiverse are a common suggestion or topic of discussion, so I thought I'd start a discussion topic to see what people would most love to see added to EV. To be clear though, Abbey has already said that new breeds are unlikely to be added in the next year or so. This isn't a debate about whether or not we should increase the amount of breeds on EV, it's just a fun discussion about what breeds you'd like to eventually join the EV family regardless of whether it's ever likely to happen.

So what I'd like you to do is post below what breed(s) you'd love to see on EV (limit it to one breed per post) and include its name, a picture or two (not 50!), some info about it like what colours it has or what disciplines it's good at, and why you'd like to see it here. If its already been suggested, 'like' the first post that suggests it instead.

Also, go through and 'like' any other posts suggesting breeds you'd like to see here, so we can build up a bit of a poll. Discussion about the merits of suggested breeds is more than welcome too. :)

Have fun!

I'll try to keep a running tally of suggested breeds and the amount of 'likes' they've gotten below.

Paso Finos have always been one of my go-tos whenever I play a horse sim. I just think they're gorgeous. They can also pretty much be any color, which would be fun on a game like this with such good art. In my experience though, their popularity is really hit or miss on sim games. ~

Lusitanos are another of my favorites. They're also really stunning. Those Iberian breeds are just pretty amazing. xD It's used for dressage, jumping, racing, working, etc. They're pretty well-rounded.

Rocky mountain horse

Overview

any solid color is considered acceptable in regestration, but a dark chocolate color with a flaxen main is prefered.

Unicorn

Although it's not really in keeping with EV's realism theme, I would absolutely love to see a fictional breed added to EV, such as the unicorn. This could be either the type that looks like a horse with a horn, or the type with a more unique conformation, with the lion tail, cloven hooves, and slender deer-like build.
If these were available I would absolutely have an entire herd of them, even if they were only available in the traditional white or base colours like black.

The Pintabian would be an interesting breed for EV if we ever got limited cross breeding. It was developed by crossbreeding Arabians with Tobiano horses, then breeding back to pure Arabians until you ended up with a 99% pure Arabian which also had Tobiano markings. Today's Pintabians are considered a pure breed, so the only way to get one is to breed two Pintabians together or breed a Pintabian to a pure Arabian. Their build is identical to a pure Arabian, but they come in a much wider variety of colours, including cream and dun dilutes, and patterns such as Tobiano, Sabino, Rabicano, and Overo. Every horse has Tobiano, and they can't be registered if they don't.

In the context of EV, this would mean we could potentially use the same base as the Arabian art, just add more colours and markings to it, and we could maybe allow crossbreeding between Arabians and Pintabians, with the resulting foal being a Pintabian.

Icelandic horse

The Icelandic horse is a small horse from Iceland. They descend from the horses the Vikings brought with them when they settled.
Most known for their sturdiness and additional gaits, tölt and flying pace.
Many can be considered a pony in height, but their build and strength is said to be that of a horse and they are considered horses, no matter height, in Iceland.

The breed is used for herding sheep and other work around their country. They are also bred for work under the saddle, usually these shows are either gaited shows or racing, both gaited competitions (flying pace) and other.

Colors: Chestnut, Black, Bay, Grey, Dun, Cream, Roan, Flaxen, Silver, Sooty, possibly some others I'm not aware of.
Markings: All pinto markings are allowed, except leopard markings. Usually they're just referred to as ”pinto”, so I'm unsure what markings they actually come in. The ones I know exist in the breed are tobiano and splash.

Norwegian Fjord Horse

A small draft-type horse/pony from Norway, probably most known for being one of the oldest breeds. Most likely they descended from the Mongolian Przewalski horse, and due to the isolated area in Norway they originated in, they have kept many of the original characteristics from their forefather.

Originally they were an all-round horse, used for everything between pulling heavy loads and riding. Later they were bred mainly as a draft horse, creating a heavier type for farm work.
Today they look more like the lighter all-round horse they originally were, and are again used for both work under harness and saddle.

Colors: Dun, with or without cream. The dun color is much lighter than normal, and the primitive markings are brighter.
From left to right: Red Dun, Dunalino, Grullo, Classic Dun and Dunskin.

my favorite breed out of my list first...

Criollo
A breed native to Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. They are a hardy, strong, and muscular breed, with either a straight or convex profile (the convex ones are very hot-looking horses btw XD), and short legs. They are around 14-15 hands high.
They are a very colorful breed. They can come in: brown, bay, black, buckskin, grullo, chestnut, palomino, gray, overo, roan, dun (the most common), and probably even more colors (for example, I've seen many pictures of sabino and appaloosa ones, but that isn't listed on Wikipedia, so...).
They are entered in endurance tests to "evaluate" them for breeding (paraphrased from Wikipedia).
I really love this breed, and hope they can be added one day! They have many colors/patterns to breed for, plus they're another endurance breed since we kinda need more lol.
(none of these pictures are mine)

they say this one's sooty:

Shire

The Shire horse is a heavy draft horse and is one of the largest horses in the world. It can be black, bay, grey, draft-type sabino, sooty, roan, and maybe also chestnut. They're used for driving and leisure riding.

Can I please just say that I am not planning on adding breeds in the near future. I know the main post addresses this, but with a poll tally running it seems like you may be expecting this to be happening soon.

I don't want to add new breeds to the game until we know that there are a good amount of breeders of the current breeds in the game and the activity levels could support a new breed. This is just so that we don't run into the issues we had in the previous iteration where some breeds only had 1-2 dedicated breeders and it wasn't very fun for them, resulting in those members potentially abandoning those breeds to join the more popular breeds.

I have absolutely no plans to add a new breed for at least a year, unless the game happens to explode in activity before then.

I only ever intended this as a fun discussion, not a serious demand for a new breed, with the tally just a simple way to see what people liked. If I haven't made this sufficiently clear in the first post please let me know how I can change it.
