Tobiano Markings

#77440 Posted on 2016-11-29 12:17:22

So I'm awful at tobiano markings and I've been working to improve.

Here is my latest attempt at a tobiano:

Let me know what you think, like or dislike about it.

Also let me know if you'd be willing to buy a character like this or not. (It's not for sell, but just let me know).

i think it looks realistic with one exception.
the marking on the lower neck doesn't seem quite "right" with what i know of the appearance of white markings for tobianos. They typically cross over part of the topline of the horse. That's not to say that they always do, and other than that nitpicky thing it looks really good!

i don't buy art so i can't tell you yes/no either way, but i can say that it looks infinitely better than anything i've tried to make. i especially like the way that the rump white marking spreads down and joins the hind stocking :)

I see what you're saying. That was the last white marking I added and wasn't sure about it either.

thxs I'm really happy about how the hind leg marking turned out.

Agree with the user above (lol sorry my phone doesnt show all characters in names so im not quiiiite sure who posted but i have an idea who did XD)
it looks really awesome for a tobiano, other than that stray patch of white. Though that stray patch can probably happen sometimes. i posted some images above of ones i use as reference when making tobianos. It shows minimal to maximal markings on tobianos, and i like to just make variations in between. In case you wanted some tobiano ideas c:

Yeah, the neck marking is a bit strange but overall pretty good. I would say that your markings are just a bit to sharp. I think that they would look better if they blended into each other just a bit but not to much if that makes sense. Also there is a stripe on the front left hoof the runs onto the leg and it isn't blended well. Your eye is a bit weird and I can't figure out what it is. (I'm horrible at eyes so I wouldn't take my advise on that. XD) Also, like said before, shading is key. I think that shading would really add a lot of value to it. The last thing is I think that the tail could be blended together more. If you fixed those things and it was for sale then I would buy it! XD

I pretty much agree with everyone else here about the neck marking, and the front leg markings are a little bit rounded compared to the rest of the markings, so maybe if they were just a little sharper it might mesh a little better. But I just had to pop in and say that the belly and hind markings are absolutely adorable ♥ :D
