What do you breed for? |
#77173 Posted on 2016-11-27 11:54:28
I'm curious on what other breeders breed for.
What breeds do you breed? (or main breed)
What is most important too you?
What are your requirements when buying a horse?
What colors are your favorite?
Any patterns that are your favorite?
favorite combinations?
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats
2. color
3. patterns
4. conformation
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse
2. number of times you will breed a horse
anything else?
My answers, if anyone is curious
What breeds do you breed? Mostly Quarter Horses
What is most important too you? Color
What are your requirements when buying a horse? I prefer a horses that does not a have a stallion with 20 some foals in the liniage (I already have some, but prefer not to have more) with low stats in everything but intelligence and speed. Stats don't mean to much too me when buying, as I can work on them. I prefer horses of bright colors, but have color randomizers if I find a good foundation horse without great color. I also look for roans.
What colors are your favorite? Moreno, perlino, smoky cream, cremello, dunalino, sable cream champange, sable champagne, and any dun or silver versions of these colors
Any patterns that are your favorite? Roans of any forms, especially a double Rn roan.
favorite combinations? flaxen double Rn red dun, or flaxen RnSb red dun
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats - raise them as much as I can through generations
2. color - breed rare/ unique/ favorite colors
3. patterns -breed roans, any variation of roans, overos, and splashes
4. conformation- try and find horses 55 conformation or higher
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse- I will breed a horse 16 or older, but most likely won't breed till 17 (not including horses put up for stud, those arn't my breedings to me.)
2. number of times you will breed a horse- usually 4 times, 5 at most. ( this does not include the previous breedings from other owners)
anything else? I've recently gotten an obsession with double splash horses and sable champanges of any kind (sable cream champange, sable champange dun, etc.) and am always on the lookout for them.

- What breeds do you breed? (or main breed)
Honestly, too many lol. Appaloosas, Tekes, Chincos, Dutch WBs, Clydes, Morgans, QHs, Paints, TWHs, Welshies, and TBs. My main breeds are QHs and TWHs.
- What is most important too you?
Stats.
- What are your requirements when buying a horse?
Must have clean/short lines, 0 foals, high stats (how high depends on what other horse I'm pairing it with).
- What colors are your favorite?
I like duns, silvers, and champagnes.
- Any patterns that are your favorite? Favorite combinations?
Depends on the breed, some of the patterns look hideous but I enjoy splash.
- What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats - Highest it can be.
2. Color - Doesn't really matter.
3. Patterns - Doesn't really matter.
4. Conformation - Don't care about it.
- What are your breeding limitations
1. Age you will breed a horse - At age 20 only.
2. Number of times you will breed a horse - 1, 2 if it's a really good horse.
That's all for me c:

What colors are your favorite? Black, Smokey Black, Grullo, Perlino, Cream, Smokey Cream
Any patterns that are your favorite? Roans maybe
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats - eventually over 400
2. color - all black bases

gotta space it out so I don't go blind
What breeds do you breed? My main breed has always been TBs, but I've also gotten really into Chincos, and QHs on my spare. I just started up Arabs and Shetlands, but neither will probably stay because a) Arabs aren't very colorful, and b) there are very few Shetland breeders that sell their decent horses, making it hard to get rare stock without paying credits.
What is most important too you? COLOR. Stats and confo can wait. I like rare things, so I have started obsessing over rare colors.
What are your requirements when buying a horse? Not too expensive (I'm poor lol), and it has to have at least one rare color or pattern (preferably color, marking randomizers are cheaper than color randomizers).
What colors are your favorite? For TBs: anything NOT bay, chestnut, or gray, and I really like smoky cream and smoky black. For Chincos: anything NOT bay, chestnut, or gray, and I really like seal browns, dunalinos (have yet to get one), anything smoky, any kind of duns, and flaxen/sooty/silver. For QHs: anything NOT gray, bay, or chestnut, and I really like seal browns, dunalinos (have yet to get one again), anything smoky, any kind of duns, and flaxen/sooty/silver. For Arabs: anything NOT gray, and I like chestnuts the best because they can show flaxen. For Shetlands: anything NOT gray, bay, or chestnut, and I can't really tell you what I like yet because I just started this breed, but something like what I already listed for other breeds would be good I guess.
Any patterns that are your favorite? RABICANO is my main focus (kinda), but I also like splash (only in some breeds), frame overo, roan, and sabino (only in some breeds). More than one pattern is a great plus.
Favorite combinations? Flaxen red dun rabicano, rabicano dunalino, and silver sooty wild bays ♥.
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to:
1. Stats- don't really care tbh, but I try to only gain the right ones. I have a stat project right now, but only with one horse.
2. Color- NO GRAYS AT ALL, and pref no chestnuts or bays in all breeds but Arabs. Rarity matters!
3. Patterns- rabicano, frame overo, flaxen, silver, and sooty... again, rarity matters!
4. Conformation- don't care as of yet.
What are your breeding limitations:
1. Age you will breed a horse- since I'm an impatient idiot, I've been breeding them around 4, but I want to start waiting until they're like at least 10.
2. Number of times you will breed a horse- due to my generation-based project, only once.
Anything else? I want to be the owner (pref breeder) of the first International-level TB. Crazy, right?

What breeds do you breed? (or main breed) Quarter Horses
What is most important too you? Color > Stats > Conformation
What are your requirements when buying a horse? Clean pedigree, little to no deleted horses and NO inbreeding at all.
What colors are your favorite? Brown bases, flaxen, creams, champagnes, dun, silver,
Any patterns that are your favorite? Tobiano (TT) or Sabino Roan
--favorite combinations?TT with silver on a brown base ;)
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats : 700+ foundies at retirement, 300+ every generation at birth
2. color : double dilutes (cream is the most important to me)
3. patterns : as many as possible on a given horse
4. conformation : 50+
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse no younger than 15, typically the first breeding is at 18
2. number of times you will breed a horse 4
anything else? I am obsessed with keeping my lines clean and when possible even i.e. first gen bred to a first gen even though their is no real reason for having even lines (I just love the way it looks).

- What breeds do you breed?
My favorites are my dressage arabians, though i also have endurance mustangs, conformation (western) quarter horses, and a handful of racing tekes and showjumping appaloosas
- What is most important too you?
the easiest answer is: it depends. I'll answer this more in depth farther down.
- What are your requirements when buying a horse?
i very rarely buy outside lines, but I will when i find a horse with: low non-specialty stats in the discipline i breed for, good conformation, good color, and a short or uncommon pedigree. i don't give a flying fig about how many foals a horse has.
- What colors are your favorite?
in arabians, either black or flaxen chestnut. in anything else, flaxen red based colors. i also like duns and silver. i dislike double cream dilutes because i don't like blue eyes :/
- Any patterns that are your favorite?
rabicano and heterozygous sabino in arabians. roan, rabicano and splash in mustangs. roan, rabicano, splash, tobiano, overo in quarter horses.\
- Favorite combinations?
arabians: flaxen rabicano sabino
mustangs: anything flaxen + roan
quarter horses: flaxen red dun splash roan ♥
- What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats: the higher the better. 800 for foundies and +400 for each generation after
2. color: the more dilutes the better (except cream)
3. patterns: the more the merrier, though with mustangs i avoid tobiano, sabino, and overo because they look terrible
4. conformation: i want it to be sooo high. so high.
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse whenever, though sometimes i try to wait until they are at max training level. i want foals to be above 500+ stats if possible, but if they'll be lower because there's a great stud available i'll sacrifice. for my conformation QHs i breed as soon as they have enough stats for their foals to be over 100 stats
2. number of times you will breed a horse unlimited. i like breeding and its not like I churn out poor quality horses (except maybe some would consider my QHs poor quality due to low stats :P), so i see no reason to limit my breeding, especially since its not like I go outside my own lines often enough to worry about distant inbreeding.
- Anything else?
I hoard projects and someone needs to stop me

What breeds do you breed? (or main breed) Mostly minis
What is most important too you? Stats, although I'll normally turn away a horse unless I like the color.
What are your requirements when buying a horse? At least a few Good+ in Conformation, and no Awfuls, a color I like, and fairly promising stats.
What colors are your favorite? Grullo, Chestnut, Palomino, Dunalino, and Smoky Black
Any patterns that are your favorite? Sabino
favorite combinations? Black, Grullo, and Chestnut Sabino
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats: To breed a R3+ Horse (Up to R2 right now)
2. Color: To get a Grullo
3. Patterns: To get a Chestnut Sabino (Pretty weird, right?)
4. Conformation: To breed a all- Exellent horse
What are your breeding limitations?
1. Age you will breed a horse: 18 to 19
2. Number of times you will breed a horse: Normally 1 or 2, but I don't mind breeding more if it's functional
Anything else? By "To breed a R3+ Horse", I mean to breed one that becomes R3 somewhere in it's lifetime

What breeds do you breed? (or main breed)
My main breeds are Lipizzaner, Shetland Pony and Dutch Warmblood, I also keep 3 side breeds.
What is most important too you?
Stats, other things depends on the breed and line.
What are your requirements when buying a horse?
Depends on why I’m buying it. I’m more picky about stats, conformation and pedigree with my serious lines than I am with my color project-lines.
What colors are your favorite?
Seal brown bases, flaxen and silver.
Any patterns that are your favorite?
Tobiano and rabianco.
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats – As high as possible?
2. color – Lipis: Maintain a small herd of non-greys. Gypsies: Seal brown and flaxen. Shetlands: Seal brown, silver, pangare, cream and champagne.
3. patterns – Clydes: Solids.
4. conformation - Perfectsss. I try to get there by carefully pairing my horses.
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse – 16+ years, usually not before 18-19.
2. number of times you will breed a horse – As many times I have to, to get the color and conformation I want. Usually just 2, although I have a new project going where some horses will have 3 times that.

What breeds do you breed? Almost all, but my main are Welsh Ponies
What is most important too you? Stats & color are what I like, stats being the number one most important thing I look at especially when breeding
What are your requirements when buying a horse? I always look at the price, then the stats compared to its age. I couldn't care less how many goals the horse has had or what it's pedigree looks like. If it's got a pretty coat color, decent stats, and is priced just right then I'm going to snag it up.
What colors are your favorite? cream dilutes, silvers, and sooty
Any patterns that are your favorite? Splash, roans, rabicanos
favorite combinations? silvers and smoky together are absolute to die for
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats as high as possible
2. color pretty colors and rares
3. patterns paired with rare colors
4. conformation don't really care for conformation so I don't care anything about how it changes
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse anytime from 10+
2. number of times you will breed a horse
anything else? probably 3-4 times but some exceptions occur where a horse may be bred more than that

What breeds do you breed? (or main breed)
Breeding TWH, Morgans, Friesians, Andalusians and Trakehners for dressage
What is most important too you?
Stats, color and then conformation but sometimes color and conformation switch, depends on the breed
What are your requirements when buying a horse?
Stats, Conformation and then doesnt matter color that much except with gray, if i buy a grey horse must be Gg
What colors are your favorite?
Many of them, specially blacks and its diluted forms, Buckskin, Dunalino, Creams, Perlino, Cremello, etc.
Any patterns that are your favorite?
Roans, Rabicanos
favorite combinations?
doesnt matter that much but love the "extensive" roans
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats
High has possible.
2. color
My favorite colors and then the "rarest" or uncommon colors within a horse breed
3. patterns
Doesnt matter that much
4. conformation
Has long has everything is 50+, doesnt matter that much
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse
Stallions and mares will be 10+ depending on their stats, will breed mares mostly over 15
2. number of times you will breed a horse
Mares 3 times if start breeding on the 15 year mark, 1 time when they are 20 if they did not have the best stats. Stallions dont care much but will keep a cap and close look on any outside offspring
anything else?
Nothing :D

What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats I combine horses based on this and on their lineages
2. color Anything somehow special
3. patterns Some as color

What breeds do you breed? (or main breed)
-Right now it's Paints, but I don't specialize. I just look at my horses with the highest confo and decide from that.
What is most important too you?
-Stats and confo
What are your requirements when buying a horse?
-Confo above 55 and non-specialty stats add up to less than 50
What colors are your favorite?
-Silver, creams, and sable
Any patterns that are your favorite?
-Snowcaps on Appaloosas
favorite combinations?
-I saw a sable Appy with a white snowcap that was absolutely gorgeous.
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats: non-specialty stats as low as possible
2. color: anything except gray
3. patterns: not a specific goal but I try to produce heterozygous foals to keep variety in the breeds
4. conformation: as high as possible
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse: has to be above 10, ideally above 15 but sometimes I get too impatient, lol
2. number of times you will breed a horse: My goal is to keep it to 5 or less but sometimes it's hard if I've bought a horse that's already been bred. If a horse's parents have a lot of foals (like 10 or more) I will only breed it once or twice though.

What breeds do you breed? (or main breed)
I breed Arabians and Paints
What is most important too you?
Stats mainly for the Arabians. Colour and stats for the paints
What are your requirements when buying a horse?
-The colour for paints has to be anything that is not bay, black or chestnut.
-Preferably clean or short lines
What colors are your favorite?
For the Arabians, honestly anything that isn't bay. For the paints anything that isn't bay, black, grey or chestnut.
Any patterns that are your favorite?
Definitely sabino for my Arabians. For the paints i don't really care.
favorite combinations?
Chestnut sabinos. Ugh I just love them on Arabians.
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats - To get them high as possibly. Currently going to get a horse with 800+ stats then 1000+
2. color - For my arabians I'm really hoping to get some chestnut really going, as well as maybe flaxen thrown in the mix (and some lovely black for good measure). For my paints i'm really looking to get any colour than bay, black or chestnut.
3. patterns - Sabino all the way for my arabians. Really want some good stock of chestnut sabinos. For paints, pattern doesn't really bother me.
4. conformation - As of right now, conformation is really on the backburner for me, however in the future I wish to get horses with at least an average conformation of 70.
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse - I won't breed a horse below 16.
2. number of times you will breed a horse - Doesn't really matter to me. It depends more on if I'm trying to get a certain colour, or a certain number of foals from a certain pairing.

I'm very bored, so I'm looking through older threads to reply to. Yay me.
What breeds do you breed?
These days it's QHs, Trakes, and Chincos. The Chincos are my favorite at the moment. (: I've been tempted to start on another breed though.
What is most important too you?
Stats.
What are your requirements when buying a horse?
I almost always only buy foundations. I look for good conformation most of all, just because color can be changed. And I look for unbred horses with whatever I feel is a decent amount of stats for their age.
What colors are your favorite?
Black and smokey black for Trakes. Dunalino, grullo, smokey black, seal brown, brown dun, and pretty much any of the champagnes for QHs and Chincos. I'm not really into super light colors like perlino and moreno and palomino, but I like the lighter champagnes still.
Any patterns that are your favorite?
LOVE RnRn on Trakes. Rabicano is my favorite on QHs and Chincos.
Favorite combinations?
I'm totally in love with the combos on the customs I just made: one and two
What are your own goals for your horses when it comes to
1. Stats: This is my primary goal, and since I'm working with mostly all foundations, I'm just trying to see how high I can get the stats since I'm just starting from scratch with the base 100 stats on all mine. I'd like to get at least a few over 1000, but mostly am aiming for 850 or more if I can.
2. color: I like rarer/more interesting colors and often use applicators to get ones I want. I haven't been playing long enough to really have longterm goals for breeding colors and all that.
3. patterns: I'm trying to keep rabicano in my QH and Chinco herds but otherwise I don't have any big goals for this either.
4. conformation: This is my second biggest focus after stats. I like that conformation can't be changed except with breeding and just luck while creating new horses. I have been upping my standards as I go. I used to just want over 55 average, now I'm only keeping new foundations with 60 or more average (but not getting rid of the ones I had that are lower just yet, since I've put a lot of work into them already, and I'll probably use a lot of them for public studs if I don't use them myself). Time will tell how much I stick to this focus, since I'll have to see how much effort I want to put into trying to breed for it. xD
What are your breeding limitations
1. age you will breed a horse: I like the trend that most people use of breeding only when the horse is older. I won't buy any horses bred at a young age. And when it comes time to breed my own I'll probably breed when they're close to 18ish. I don't mind buying things from the credit shop so I know if I end up with some really good horses I'll probably wait until they're really old, like 20ish, then set them back in age with time twisters and use breedagain solutions and gestation rushes to make sure I'm getting the best foals.
2. number of times you will breed a horse: I'll probably aim for 5 times max. I know a lot of people stick to 2-3 but if I'm going to put a crapload of work into these horses I'd like to be able to make use of it.
anything else?
Don't think so.
