Palomino Genes Question

#76221 Posted on 2016-11-19 11:03:19

Are palominos not considered flaxen genetically? I honestly had no idea one way or the other, but I was looking at the genetics for some palomino horses on the game and they didn't have the Ff or ff genes to them. Instead they were FF. Not all of them, mind.

Just curious.

Nope Palomino coloring has to do with the Cream gene (Crcr) having one cream on a chestnut base makes a horse Palomino(only one mind, two Creams make a Perlino Cremello!). Flaxen also only shows up on Chestnut bases, but does not make the horse a palomino, just a flaxen chestnut. Also only ff horses show on the image as flaxen, Ff horses are only carriers of the gene!

You can read more extensively on Genes in this guide, which is stickied in Game Discussion!

Two copies of cream (CrCr) on a chestnut (ee) base makes a cremello (I think that's what Sabriel meant, but just to clear it up). Two copies of cream on a bay (E- A-) base makes a perlino.

Also, if a palomino or cremello is flaxen (ff), it's called flaxen palomino or flaxen cremello.

Ahhh! I see. That's why it isn't listed in the genetics guide. I was just confused since flaxen equals light mane and tail - and that's what a palomino tends to have. I knew it altered the base, I just didn't know if it also altered the mane and tail separately from the flaxen gene.

Thanks. :)
