Breeding Lines - I'm all jumbled

#64783 Posted on 2016-09-01 08:04:54

I just cannot keep track of it anymore, I'm terrified of inbreeding so I have stopped breeding within my own stock and have started to just breed my mares with other peoples stallions.

I'm honestly thinking of just stopping breeding for now and starting from scratch, but that's just so much work that would be lost.

What do you guys think I should do?

I had this problem awhile back, so I decided to restart my lines. I personally love that I did so, but you'll have to judge the pros and cons for yourself.

Totally up to you. Me, I would probably restart cause yeah thats a lot of work lost, but if I lost track of whom to breed to whom, etc I wouldn't want to deal with it XD Plus I might be all ooh time to try a new breed! Course if I had a favorite horse or two or a descendant of a favorite, I would probably end up keeping them. :)

I personally only go by the front page of the pedigree, so I made a spreadsheet in Excel and had columns (sire, dam, stats, etc) and one column was ancestors (beyond the parents) and I would look down the line and make sure the horses I wanted to breed didn't have any common ones on the first page.

Also I only get one foal per mare, so that cuts down the chance that they will have similar ancestors.

But it seems there's lots of GV breeders, so you probably could breed outside a lot.

I'm thinking that I will just let all my lines die out, but keep one or two of my better horses. Then starting up from the bottom with a better plan this time @_@

I personally would start over, but keep your current herd and care for them until them die, use them to gain XP, or just let them die off. I recently started over, not because of bloodlines, but for other reasons. I used my old herd to gain XP in the meantime.

Yeah, just gonna keep training my current ones but I won't do anymore breeding. I'm thinking of only keeping two horses from my original lines just based on the fact that they are too good to not breed.
