Heyy it's about time we had some movement on this!

I copy/pasted this from the newsletter, please leave comments and suggestions below! All of these are adding on to what was in the original google doc HERE

Most likely to be implemented:

Monthly newsletter
-Started!
Just something to get this group active, and to help me remember to move forward with it x3

Tutorial Request Topic/Tutorial Masterpost. -Can now be found here!
Since I don't have the time to organize a tutorial a month from players, I think this would be a nice alternative. People can comment asking for tutos and as they are posted they would be added to the main post. Tutos made by EV members could be featured once a month in a newsletter.
-This could also be a main hub where a player can ask for an artist to show them how to do something. OR we could make a different post for that or just leave it for people to make their own posts asking for help through join.me's. I want opinions on this!

Singular art piece features every month (Modified suggestion by Hoofie)-Still need people to nominate these! Currently we're doing 1 per newsletter but I would love to see it grow!
Looking for things done well or that look interesting, maybe not what you see every day. Basically something that stands out of the crowd in a good way. Players can post on the bulletin board what art they want to nominate every month, or if there is no votes then I could pick one.

Theme/prompt every month (Suggested by River) --Currently run by Ruby, feel free to also post suggestions on the Art Club's bulletin board!
This can be added to the end of the monthly newsletters, there wouldn't be any gain to accomplishing this but it would serve as an art prompt if you're looking to make something but don't know what.

Deviantart Group (Suggested by Nittrous) (getting around to asking about this, I would like more suggestions on what folders to add so I only have to ask once)
I like this idea, as a lot of people post on DA and it would make for a nice little hub. There is an Equiverse group run by Abbey on DA already (http://equiverse-sim.deviantart.com/), we should definitely use it! Let me know what kind of folders you guys think we should ask to add (tutorials for sure).

---Suggestions not currently on the plate---

Keep your suggestions coming! I like the way you guys think. I still haven't had the time to work this out but you guys are suggesting some great alternatives! I think for the time being I'll go with listing current art contests until we can eventually get Club run contests going (if I don't forget again... whoops >.<)
Contests
are unfortunately on hold for now as they usually don't really get much attention on the forums in the first place. Also I'm not up to fundraising for prizes at the moment. I can possibly feature contests being held by players in the meanwhile though!
Or, if you guys would want to do contests that don't really have much for prizes (small amount of EVD, being featured in the monthly newsletter, something like that) then we could arrange it. Give me ideaaassss!

EV youtube channel (suggested by Wingard)
This has the potential to be a lot of fun, but I'm not sure how well it would work out. The original suggestion is to post join.me's on it but seeing as those run for hours at a time I don't think that would be a good idea unless they were shortened down to like a half hour and maybe used the voice call feature. It could also be a place to post speed paints, however, those aren't very common on EV. With an EV channel popularity for them could potentially pick up but then the channel would require someone to run it, which I am not at all up to doing right now. It's possible we could work this out, but for the time being it's a no. :c

Some really great ideas here. :D Some feedback and suggestions of my own:

- Regarding the monthly art prompt, perhaps get people to send you links to the art they make for the prompt and feature these in the newsletter, as well as introducing the next month's prompt.

- Love the tutorial idea. I have a few ideas for tutorials I'd like to do as well.

- I've just joined the DA group. No idea there was one! I suggest adding a folder specifically for custom horse images (as opposed to including these in manips/characters or similar).

- Regarding contests, how about listing all current player run art contests in the newsletter?

- BBCode doesn't work in newsletters. :P I'm not certain, but I've heard html code does. Could you check this?

Thanks for the feedback Ulysses! I like those suggestions so far.

As far as the BBCode in the newsletter, I realized too late that it doesn't work -_- after I saw it didn't work I went around looking in the forums and found out that apparently html works for newletters, but it doesn't say that anywhere and I'm not able to edit the newsletter nor delete it to repost it (newletters are also only allowed once a week). I find it all rediculiously annoying.

I really really think it would be cool if we had a contest every once in awhile with an art prompt. I see places online that do it and it's super creative.

Jezarea, that was originally the plan but unfortunately I can't supply prizes at the moment xP (man I wish member groups had banks!)
My plan is to add contests in once we get some more activity, from my experience contests are very hit and miss and haven't had much luck at all these past few months. Because of this I don't want to jump into them just yet. In any case, they WILL eventually be added! I just need to start small at first as I'm essentially running the group myself and my time is limited.

However, if a player wanted to step in and host an art prompt contest under the Art Club I'd be happy to promote the heck out of it with newsletters. ;)

I really like the idea of the features and the art prompts and would be willing to participate in such events, as mentioned in the first post and by Ulysses. :) Being able to show off our art is enough of a prize for me. Perhaps later on if there's enough interest and funds, additional prizes could be added, but right now I don't think it's necessary and would be too much headache like you said. In the meantime, I do also like the idea of listing player-run contests in the newsletters. :D

I like the idea of tutorials too - but I personally dislike seeing all the "join.me" posts as it tends to be pretty chaotic on the boards and difficult to sort through to know who is on, who is off, etc etc. What I like is just having a central hub of existing and newly submitted tutorials linked for easy viewing instead of having to sort through a mess of other posts. If that makes sense?

Had no idea there was already a DA group either! o.o Just joined it. Thanks for putting the link there!

Random thought, but what if you did something like the winner from a contest won the winning piece of art (or recolor) from the previous contest? Then all you would need to start would be one piece of art to get the ball rolling.

On a different game, someone had implemented a group where various artists could host join.me classes and actually get paid for them (a place in the class paid for by each person learning). Could be an idea if people were willing?

Owlish Olive that's an interesting idea, but the only way that that would work would be if it were sold for in game currency, otherwise it would be against the ToS.
I am rather against this though, it would be viewed as another kind of money grab using art and artists already get enough of a bad rep for that as it is .-.

River that's a neat idea!
only downside is any art from the contests would either have to be in greyscale or would have to be custom painted to correspond with the next winner's character.
Unless the winning piece was a background or a base of some sort... then there's also making sure the previous winner was still around to give it to the new winner. hmmmmmMMMMMM
It could get complicated but there is a possibility of it working.

Update:

Hello EVACers! I just wanted to give you all an update on club activities.

I'm currently locked out of being able to do anything with the club as there's a bug, so I'm trying to contact Narimasha in order to remove me and add me back on and hope that fixes it.

Once I'm not restricted anymore then I can lower the club fee and start adding some features, as well as start looking for some more admins. Thanks for your patience!

Something(s) that I would love to see you guys add or change are:
-Club contests, maybe elect someone to be in charge of contests, messages, etc
-Maybe have a mascot for the month (like the breed clubs do) but either with a artist or an elected character
-Revamp contest? A player is given a character to revamp, and the artist is judged on what they did, how it looks, etc.

I would love if you guys PMed me with any questions, comments, or concerns regarding some of my suggestions. I would love to get more involved with your club!

Contests are definitely close to being in the running! We're just waiting until the clubs have them finalized a bit better, and will probably elect another admin before then just to further help keep things moving. But we are very excited by the club updates and plan to make good use of them :)

As far as the mascots go, we're already somewhat doing that with the featured artist of the month, but we could possibly add in characters as well. The main issue we have at the moment is players actually nominating artists. I'm wondering if we should do a tester contest just to figure out how the whole setup works and maybe we can do nominations through that? Just trying to brainstorm a little.

And what you're describing with the revamp contest sounds a little similar to a contest I was thinking of, where everyone has this one idea to go off of and make their own variations of it. I was thinking of it being on specific lines/coloring page rather than with a character though. That way it would be more for artists doing it for themselves rather than one player receiving a ton of art for their character. Though if we did it using a mascot character then that would increase the desire of having ones character nominated. Or we could make an EVAC character and have contests building off of rounding the character out(how it looks, personality, backstory, best friend/parents, etc.), that could be really interesting.

I'm trying really hard to balance what all participants get out of a contest so everyone gets something out of doing it

I agree with your suggestions, I think that those are somethings that would be really cool to implement into the club.
