Raves

Raves

#54956 Posted on 2016-07-20 22:20:24

Since I made a thread for rants in adult chat, I thought I should make a raves chat, but one accessible to everybody. Feel free to share anything great that's happened in your life recently, be it online or virtual. :) I'll start.

I'm so tired, there's been so much friend drama, but it seems everything is going to be okay. All in all, it's been a really good day and I'm happy. I feel like I've reached some threshold today that's going to make me a better person.

Great idea!

I've been in the process of getting my CNA certification, and my state is really intense about it (which is good, requires 40 hours of clinical experience). During clinical this week I was working with non-verbal residents with severe dementia and Alzheimer's. A resident I was working with is newer and shows many of the aggressive behaviors. Out of desperation to keep myself in a good mood during the work day, I started singing various Frank Sinatra songs (I can't sing well) while caring for her. She. Lit. UP. She half-smiled and started bopping her head. She responded!

It felt really good to find a way to connect with her, and it decreased the aggressive behaviors during care.

So now all the CNAs have a Sinatra singing dance party while caring for her!

That's wonderful! I hope things keep going well for both you and the residents you're working with! It's a beautiful feeling when you're able to connect with someone like that. May you make many more wonderful connections. ^^

My dog, Eddie, has a tumor on the outside of his body where his bladder is. (He's 13, big dog) He went to the vet, and got a return call, it's not cancer! :D

It's just a urinary tract infection starting. The tumor is just fat. He probably still has a few more years left in him. :)

I'm so glad you got good news! I hope you can take care of the urinary tract infection quickly and have him live a happy, long life. ^^

This is a great idea, Syrien.

Ducky, as someone who has a family member with Alzheimer's, I love that you're finding ways to connect with the patients. That is a BIG deal.

I got pulled over for the first time today (mind you, I'm 24) and rather than issuing me a ticket, the officer told me that he "appreciates seeing someone without any violations, so he's going to do his part to keep it that way" and then proceeded to give me a brief educational lecture about why he'd stopped me and what to do differently in the future.

Not only did he not give me the $128 fine that would have been applicable, but he made it a teaching moment instead of a punishment. Greatly appreciated!

Got a raise at work. I was already making $10.75 - a dream come true since my other job pays $7.50. Now I make $12.50 :D plus commission!
