Views on re-claiming characters

I'm massively forgetful so I'd forget to ask someone if I could use it somewhere, that and this is going to sound bad but I don't really care if they don't like me using it somewhere or not because hey, I bought it and they said they wanted it used. The only time I ever go back to someone is a) I'm asking to edit/add things to the original design, b) it's written on the ref to ask permission before reselling, c) I'm asking if they want it back.

Besides, I don't think there's many sites that you'd deny a character being used on, the majority of characters from EV will end up on horse rpg sites, harpg on deviantart, private rps, characters sites and EV itself. So I don't really agree with that rule either.

My other concern is, what if you made a mistake? Say you thought a character wasn't being used or some other rule was broken when it actually wasn't, and so you reclaimed it, then eventually resold it to someone else. Meanwhile the original owner is oblivious to this until they find out their beloved character is now being used by someone else. If that was me I'd be devastated. How would you fix something like that? Both people feel they own the character, adore it and are using it, and have both legitimately purchased it off you, but there can only be one owner.

Frankly this is the first instance I've heard of a reclaiming rule on any sort of art sale, be it a character or anything else. Glad to hear you've decided to remove it though.

I think that if you put it in your rules then it is your right to reclaim the character.

However I tend to avoid character sells with that rule because we might not have the same idea what "using a character" means, so I might think I'm using a character but the artist might disagree and re-claim the character. I understand that these players haven't been seen in a long time so this doesn't apply as much to this particular situation, but thought I'd just let you know my thoughts.

I also think that reclaimed characters shouldn't be re-sold or re-homed; mainly for the reasons UB stated in that it could really muddle ownership.

Anyway just my two-cents on the topic. :)

I'm against reclaiming characters for all these reasons stated above^^
I frequently use characters offline, as well as make them stories and do private role plays. When I buy a character, I want full ownership (unless I've agreed specifically to co-own). To me there's no point in "owning" a character that could be taken back without my knowledge because that's not ownership but a rent, lease, loan, what have you. There will come a day when I stop playing EV and I expect to still have full right to play with my characters rather then eventually come back to find out someone else is now using it :/
For this reason I also avoid rules that say "no use off of EV" since I know I won't be around for forever, and I'd hate to put a lot of work into a character just to have have it either become useless or have to sell it xP

I haven't agreed with your rules for a long time, but I respect that they've been your rules and because of that I have never bought designs from you.
I'm glad to see you're open to revising them, I think you have the potential to get a lot more customers because of this.

I just wanna reiterate - not for use off site without permission - I just like to know where they are being used, so I can contact the owner if they disappear from EV. They CAN be used offsite if I know where ;)
