Of dogs and showing

Does anyone show their dog?

I've got a four year old boxer mix (rescue) that's registered as an AKC Canine Partner (the mixed breed branch of the organization) and he's got his Canine Good Citizen and Rally Novice titles. We'll be shooting for Rally Advanced later this year.

My dude works better off-leash than on, enjoys the harder commands, and is highly food motivated, so training for RA has been a breeze. We typically end up running RE courses instead because he's so into it and focused. We need to keep polishing for a bit, but overall I'm really proud of how far we've come as a team.

I was never lucky enough to have a horse, but I showed pigs growing up and always hoped to get into the dog show world. It's been a blast so far, although I've noticed it can be a bit cliquey at some training facilities.

Does anyone else show in a sport/obedience category or conformation? I'm considering branching out to agility because he's shown interest in the obstacles and loves the jumping stations in rally.

I wish I could show my dog! My dog is food motivated as well, and loves to jump! But, since we have no place to show here in my neck of the woods, I cannot. :(

I have shown dogs in obedience and confirmation off and on for 40 years. I have shown several different breeds.
Good luck on your RE.

That's awesome, DFJ! What was your primary breed?

There are a lot of goldens and vizslas where I train. I love watching both work; the goldens are completely enamored and will do anything to get the attention of their handlers, and the vizslas are just so athletic.

And WTC, if you ever get the chance--go for it! It's a lot of fun.
