Tack Repair

#48542 Posted on 2016-06-21 13:28:38

I wish repairing tack was easie! I know I have a fairly minimal amount of horses but multiply that by 4 pieces of equipment per horse. Factor in how QUICKLY tack wears when showing and viola! You get *days* spent just clicking the "repair" button. :(

I know one can get access to the lovely "repair all" button via becoming a deluxe account. But for some people, that isn't a fesible option, like me.

My suggestion is something like this: add something in the credit store, similar to auto show/auto care, that would allow one to "repair all tack" for "x" amount of time.

What does every one else think?

Is there a basic button to repair tack? If so, I feel like an idiot because I didn't find it. Urgh.

I think with all the talk of the economy, it's actually become more important that tack wears down and breaks at some point so that players have to buy tack eventually--hopefully from other players.

I'd actually support all tack--even stuff that's fully upgraded and repaired regularly--eventually wearing down and breaking for the same reason. Not sure what that equation would look like.

Your second idea would receive a lot of backlash, the costs to buy and upgraded hundreds of tack items would be astronomical, especially since players would have kitted their horses out roughly at the same time. A better idea would be to retire the tack at the end of a horse's lifespan, since the majority of people don't remove tack one it's put on a horse unless they're selling.

I like that idea, maple. As someone with a comparitive few horses, I don't always think of the perspective of larger breeders, but you make a great point. And I think retiring tack at the end of a horse's life would still help to stimulate the economy. Not sure how it would be coded exactly to keep people from taking tack off the day before a horse dies. Maybe give each tack item a "lifespan" of 22 weeks? That way the need for new tack isn't all at once, and if you bought an older horse and applied tack you're still able to get the full life, etc.

Something to think on at least. There'd be kinks to consider on either end.

I don't think retiring tack at the end of a horse's lifetime is a good idea.
that's not how tack works in real life and it seems like a nightmare to code/prohibit.

another idea might be to have tack be reparable only a certain number of "percentages". So you can repair a piece of tack up to 500% (obvioisly a horse would be wearing it and using it up since it can't ever be above 100%) and after that the tack disappears due to "wear and tear" or something of that nature. and then perhaps credits could be spent on "everlasting tack" that never wears out?

Thanks for your responses.

My point really is, being that Abby has implemented that tack DOES wear and tear throughout a horse's show career, I am simply suggesting that there be a quicker way for me to repair my horses' tack.

I am an adult player who works minimum 40 hour week. I am trying to get married to the man of my dreams [mental note to self-never ever ever getting married again = too much work and planning.. haha] and not to mention trying to take care of all my real life animals. I do enjoy playing this game but I simply do not have time to CONSTANTLY repair each horse's piece of tack individually.

Thus, I would appreciate all the help I can get in supporting this topic. How quickly tack degrades, the debate of wether or not we should be able to repair at all, etc., are completely different subjects as to what I am trying to suggest with this particular topic.

Sorry, Nyx. I drove that off topic.

In that case, yes--an easy way to repair is helpful.

I think it would be nice for non-deluxe members to be able to pay 1-3 EVC per month to have access to the "Repair All" button that deluxes have. So I support the original idea.

I caved and bought deluxe a week or so after joining - I rarely spend money on myself for anything, and what is it, $20 for a whole year? No regrets.

You can also buy a monthly deluxe account for 5 credits (pay $5 for 10 credits and you get 2 months).

If you want to buy 5 credits using EVD, that is roughly $250k for a month, or $2mil EVD for an entire year. That's a huge investment; I'm not sure if I would do it for myself, but it is possible, and for me, the deluxe account is entirely worth it.

I won't support simply because the option already exists - you can buy a 5 credit item that gives you a 1-month deluxe membership and that gives you access to auto-repair tack that entire month.

Unlike other sim games I've played, I think Abbey has really made the deluxe features more accessible to us by offering ultra-short membership options and by implementing credit sales between users for EVD, so she can still (hopefully) turn a profit on the game (which keeps the game alive!!) and yet not create such a big divide between deluxe features and basic accounts.

On some games, the basic account is so limited that it isn't even worth playing the game as a basic, and the memberships are 6 month and 1 year only, and there is no virtual cash option.

And if you try the 1-month option and find it totally awesome, you're likely stimulated to purchase a year membership - then no worries for that entire year.

I'm almost 25 years old, work three jobs (usually only two at a time, but some weekends I work all 3), and going to school online full-time (5 classes this semester), and planning an out-of-state move in 6 months, which means I have already started job searching.

Congrats on wedding planning! I can't imagine how much work that is....my best friend has just started planning hers. I'm totally going to elope. I'm super happy for you finding the man of your dreams :) That is always something to celebrate (I'm a die hard romantic)

Do you think you could do the 1 month membership, either in real money or EVD to EVC? Or even the 1-year... as a side note, deluxe members get double bank interest over basics, so you could spend $2mil and still realistically recoup your costs.

meh, idk. i feel like if you have so many horses to where it takes more than 5 minutes tops to repair it, why not just get a deluxe account? having a deluxe account has a lot of features that help with having a larger amount of horses anyway.
