Thanks. I'm gonna give it a shot. I like the socks, stockings, blazes and stars. :D

*Edit: I did get a baby with a star! Woo hoo! Sire and dam both have stars, baby does too. :D

Just found out that if you go statistics and click on the breed your intrested in the game shows all the allowable genetics for it.

@sikora - that note refers to REAL horses, not those in game.

I have a question! So I have a white Chincoteague with WT and another with W+. I know W+ has a possibility of not passing it, so does that mean that the one with WT will always produce a white foal?

WT Chinco
W+ Chinco

^ No, it means there's is a 50% chance the foal will inherit W (and therefore be White), and 50% of the time it'll inherit T (and therefore be Tobiano). The exact pattern in the latter case will depend on what it inherits from the other parent.

Oh! Okay, thank you so much!
I know the basics of genetics but white was always confusing for me for some reason.

Hi,

I have a question concerning this horse: http://www.equiverse.com/horse.php?id=795718 . Its colour  is stated as Varnisch Roan but its genotype is EE AA gg crcr dd chch FF zz pp stysty rbrb ++ oo spsp LpLp patn1patn1 patn2patn2 .
There does  the Roan come from if there is no Rn present?

Thanks and cheers,

Firelion

Varnish roan is the name of the appaloosa pattern on the horse, it's just called varnish in the post. Varnish roan is completely unrelated to the roan gene.

Wait, are brown Morgans not a thing? I love seal brown... I'd be sad to find out I'm chasing an unattainable color.

The breed art is there;
Brown ; Brown dun ; Seal brown ; Seal brown cream ; Seal brown cream dun

I'm confused... could someone please explain? Thanks!

Micolai
Ee aa gg crcr dd chch FF zz pp stysty rbrb RnRn Oo spsp lplp patn1patn1 patn2patn2

______________________________

Ee aa = black, carrying red

gg = non-gray
crcr = non-cream
dd = non-dun
chch = non-champagne
FF = non-flaxen (is that right? I saw no FF in the guide...)
zz = non-silver
pp = non-pangare
stysty = non-sooty
rbrb = non-rabicano
RnRn = roan
Oo = overo, carrying non-overo
spsp = non-splash
lplp = non-varnish (no white)
patn1patn1 = (what is this?)
patn2patn2 = (What is this?)

Did I get this right? and I have no idea about the last two...

I also need help with this one

Ee AA gg crcr dd chch FF zz pp stysty rbrb WT oo spsp lplp patn1patn1 patn2patn2

out of complete boredom, I've been building a family tree for Spirit from "Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron" and his ancestors from the books.  I couldn't find a way to still genetically give him the dorsal stripe, and now, thanks to this very informative and descriptive guide, I now can, through his father's line, give him the less intense dun gene.  This guide is really good too!

I love genetics overall and find it easy to understand, but one thing I can't grasp is the variations in colours.
Ex: How does Liver Chestnut show up, is it just a darker chestnut in real life? Is it present in-game, and how in that case?

Edit:
Figured it out! "A liver chestnut has the same recessive base genetics as a regular chestnut, but the shade is a dark brown rather than the reddish or rust colour more typical of chestnut." "The sooty gene may also be one factor in creating the darker colour, though sooty colouration is generally not evenly distributed throughout the coat." And sooty is the explanation for liver chestnuts in-game.
