Earning Your Wings [RP]

In the vast land of Oria, there is a secluded town called Swyn. A quaint little site, Swyn is filled with cottages, markets, and taverns. But why is there a large arena, and a small building with the intials DRTF? Unlike the rest of Oria, Swyn has a little secret: when chosen juveniles in Swyn turn 13, they are trained to be a dragon rider! Dragon rider s are vital to the town; they protect the area from predators, such as mountain lions, and destructive forces, like forest fires. There are 5 types of dragons: black, red, silver, blue, and purple. 10 teens are chosen; five girls, five boys. Each girl gets a different dragon, and each boy gets a different dragon. The two with the same kind are paired to train together.

Rules:
Don't be a jerk to others.
Nothing inappropriate, like swearing or romance going too far.
You can only sign up one character.
I will throw in difficulties or odd situations when things get dry. :)
Height Limit: 5'6 for girls and 5'8 boys.

Dexter grinned brightly as he ran up to a certain grumpy girl's house, waving at her father as he worked on the weeds growing in the garden. "Hey, Mr. Creed!" He greeted pleasantly. "Have you been working out? Looking good!" His grin grew as Mr. Creed rolled his eyes at Dexter. The mischievous boy knew very well that Melanie's father does not work out, but the man was used to his constant teases by now.
"Yeah, yeah, she's in her room." Mr. Creed said, waving a hand as he turned back to his project.
Dexter waved once more before running over to the side of the house when Mel's bedroom window was. He crouched, and crawled over to the open window, when he could see the girl curled up in his window seat reading a book. Dexter bit his lip to stifle his laughter, and pulled an air horn from his bag. He quickly stuck it in, and pressed down on the button.

Mel's screams mixed in with the loud deafening horn, along with Dexter's laughter. As soon as the horn stopped, Dexter was scrambling away with Mel frantically climbing out of her window after him. She took off her slippers, and threw them at the thin boy. "Dexter, I will murder you!" She screeched, running barefoot after him and into the road.

James Todd
Jimmy walked hurriedly to the arena, tripping on almost everything in his haste. To make it worse, he wasn't looking where he was going. His eyes read from a page in a book that he had been engrossed in for hours. He had barely had time to throw shoes on before leaving for the arena. His eyes left the page as his body jerked forward. He felt himself falling, but his feet righted themselves and continued to pat pat pat hastily. He shoved the small book in his back pocket and took off sprinting for the arena, just a head. He couldn't wait to meet his dragon.

Elle Reynolds
Elle arrived at the arena earlier than necessary and was standing outside waiting for them to allow the students inside. She looked up as Jimmy slid to a stop in front of her, panting heavily. She smiled and looked away, watching a little bird hopping about. It seemed oblivious to how close it was to her. She pushed her hair over her shoulder, then pulled it back over, then tucked it behind her ear. She never knew what to do with her hair. Elle looked up the road, her hands nervously twining fingers. She knew Brenden was coming, though she didn't know when. The bird let out a cheep, and Elle, glad for a break in her thoughts, watched it amusedly as it hopped closer. She slowly stepped forward, a soft smile on her face. The bird cocked its head, looking at her. Elle froze, enjoying immensely seeing the little black bird so close. It cheeped and flew into a tree, landing in a nest. Elle watched as little chick heads popped up and peeped loudly.

"Melanie! No-Ow! We have to go!" Dexter screeched through his laughter as he attempted dodged every attack she threw at him, literally. He spun around, and reached out to grab a hold of her arms as she pounded on his small chest.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He grinned, not looking very sorry at all. He stumbled back as the tiny girl shoved at him. Him being a size zero boy was a huge disadvantage, but he would never let that hold him back. He reached around, and squeezed the girl in a tight hug, knowing all about her secret weakness. He stayed like that until he felt her relax a bit more, and let her go.
"Move it, Squirt." He ruffled her hair, and ran off cackling evilly, sending her off in a rage once again. He jogged the short distance to the arena.
"Hey guys!" He greeted cheerfully, his warm brown eyes gleaming as he brushed his black fringe back.

"I hate you, Osiris!" Mel's sharp green glared after her neighbor, her short temper flaring. She was angry at herself for allowing Dexter to use her weakness against her. She stamped her bare foot on the road, and charged off to grab her easy slip on close toed shoes. She crossed her arms, not even bothering to wave at her father as she grumbled. She charged toward the arena at her own angry pace.

Brenden jogged to the arena, and as he passed by Melanie, he flashed a goofy smile. Anyone could tell he liked her, a lot. When he arrived at the arena, he smiled and greeted everyone. He stood by Jimmy and watched the horizon. "What book are you in now?" Bren asked. "Fiction?"

Jimmy looked at Brenden. "Yeah. The library had a hard time finding one I hadn't read already when I went this time." He laughed. "Maybe I'll get the dragon book out again when I finish this one."

Elle looked over. Brenden was here, talking to Jimmy. Her heart picked up a pace. Mel and her neighbor had just arrived, too. When would they open the doors? She couldn't wait to see her dragon. She looked at Brenden again, then forced her eyes away. She couldn't be caught staring. Besides, he obviously liked Mel. She looked back at the chicks with their heads over the side of the nest.

Brenden chuckled. It was a light airy laugh, cute too. "I just finished one in dragons that my Papa owns if you want to borrow it." He told him, pulling a packet of watermelon gum out, and pulling a couple pieces out, "Anybody?" Been glanced around, he didn't like eating in front of people.

Mel approached just in time for Brendan to offer out the gum, her little fit calmed a bit as she walked over to him. "I'll take a piece." She said, and managed a small smile to him, she didn't have a beef with him so she did her best to be nice. As Dexter approached as well, she glared at him over shoulder. "Don't touch me."

Dexter giggled childishly as he plucked one of the gum pieces out of Brendan's hands, looking smug. "Admit it, you like it." He brushed a hand against her cheek, but Mel slapped it away. "She's having a fit because I found her little weakness." He grinned at Brendan knowingly with a wink. He brushed past him, "She loves hugs." He whispered to the crushing boy.

Elle walked calmly over to Brenden. "Can I have a piece?" she asked. Watermelon gum sounded really good right now. Besides, it was Brenden who was handing it out. She smiled to herself.

Rueben

Rueben grabbed his nearly empty wallet and the key to his house and dashed out the door. He ran from his house to the arena, carrying a piece of paper with the students' pairings for dragon riding training. He skidded to a halt when he reached the arena gate, and saw his friends. "Hey guys," Rue greeted, taking a piece of gum to freshen his breath for Elle.

Kye-Ree

Kye yawned as she slowly made her way to the arena. Sometimes she wondered who invented mornings, so early and such a horrible time of the day. She almost felt like she was dragging herself to the arena, but when she tripped slightly on the rocky road, her eyes widen suddenly as she quickly tried to balance herself out again. Cursing, she grumbled to herself."Trying to give me a heart attack or what!"

Once she reached the arena where all the other teenagers were waiting outside, she was much more awake. "Hey." She said to everyone as she stopped near them all. "When do we go in?"
