#34458 Posted on 2016-04-27 07:06:00

On Saturday, I had one of my best rides ever! We cantered quite a bit and I cantered bareback for the first time in a while and got it on my GoPro! :D

My bareback canter
HD makes the world go round

Have any of you ever ridden bareback? It's amazing so if you haven't, I highly recommend it if you can! :P

p.s / how amazing is my pony's rug? xD

OMG!! Riding bareback is so much fun!!! My pony has such a bouncy trot when I ride bareback so it has made me fall off a couple times. XD His rug is adorable by the way! :)

All I used to do was ride bareback. But now I prefer my saddle for the most part. Once I'm back to riding a lot more and a bit more confident in my mare (she still spooks at little things ... like a horse snorting lol) I'll probably ride bareback more. Lol

I've ridden bareback, and it was the best feeling in the world! Unlike you, I didn't canter (that's still on my bucket list xD) but simply walking around the field was brill. :3

That's canter in the video looked like so much fun! ♥ -makes strangled noise of awe-

I like to ride bb tackless quite a bit and enjoy it so much! Right now I am working on my hunter jumper instead of just riding. The canter is too cute!

Best feeling ever!!! ♥

Whenever I ride, it's bareback, with only a halter, two leadropes, and me. If my butt is feeling sore, I throw a bareback pad on, but that's hardly ever. ♥

I firmly believe Leo prefers to be rode bareback too. He's more willing to do what I want and it's more fun to go swimming without having to worry about getting the saddle wet. :)

My Haflinger Gelding is like sitting on a couch. He's got good movement too, we do a lot of tackless.

Your mare seems quite nice! Is she a Fell Pony, or perhaps a Dales?
I need to get me a Go Pro, to do some tackless videos.

I usually where a helmet ^ This was just a photo shoot.

YESSS. I like to ride bareback, and have done some lope work. Def harder than with a saddle. but is soo helpful for self improvement. I also ride stirrupless A TON and gallop that way. I recommend it, helps balance and form so much.

I've spent far too much time bareback. My first lease six years back only had a large Australian stock saddle- didn't fit me - so I rode him bareback for nine months solid. And it's been a lot of bareback since then, up until the last couple years I'd suspect I've spent most of the time on a horse w/o a saddle.

I've been lucky enough to gallop trails and beaches bareback as well as jumping both in arena and cross country. Swam out in the ocean too. We used to do trail rides always bareback and it was basically mandatory to gallop hills. (: Looking back we certainly left some bad habits on some good horses....

Does wonders for the seat, balance, and confidence. Not so great for other equitation things though.

My horse now through is really not a good bareback candidate so I'll hop on him every now and again, but generally we work under saddle. He's got a large wither and huge, bouncy movement so he's pretty hard to sit in the trot and his average canter has about a fifteen foot stride and he's hot. We don't play bareback much. It's definitely fun and I am glad for my time bareback- every rider should do it - it's given me a balance I don't think I would have otherwise.

There's not many pictures of me riding bareback but this was from a beach ride four years ago. I'm in white.

Sib, yes she is a Fell pony! :P The only downside to riding her bareback is the fact that she is super duper boney but her canter is extremely smooth and easy to sit to.
As you can probably hear in the video, her trot isn't as easy to sit to xD I felt like I was about to tip off the side haha.

Liss, my ultimate goal on my bucket list is to ride on the beach and bareback would be a huge bonus! Hahaha yes we often canter/gallop the same parts of our rides and now the ponies take it upon themselves to just go. Even us older ones at the yard struggle to hold them back and we've all been riding for 6+ years!
Yes I find my seat, balance and confidence has grown a lot since beginning to bareback but I probably wouldn't last two seconds riding in a show ring - my pony wouldn't be the most co-operative haha. We show in hand and have a show on Monday! :D

Reading all of your comments is amazing! You all seem like you've had such fun adventures bareback :D Here is a photo of me bareback a few weeks ago:

Oh i LOVE riding bareback! I dont own my own horse but whenever i go to horse camp with my friends we all mount up on the third day and go for an awesome ride! Barebcak has to be one of my many favorite things to do on a horse, plus i ride western so i do enjoy getting to jump every once in a while. :P

I always feel so free when im cantering bareback, the feel of Rags( camp horse) under me just makes me feel so happy. I may sound like a total goof but i cant explain how excited i am for this years camp!

Has anyone else ever done one of these?-
* rode stirrupless
* rode backwards
* spun around in saddle
* some what trick rode
* swam with a horse
* rode a tiny pony

This list is crazy fun to do if you have never tried any of these! ♥
