Foal Watch

It's spring my favorite time of year! I've been on foal watch this week, lets just say when I was younger pulling all nighters and being up 36-48 hours was a piece of cake! Now that I'm almost 35 my body is reminding me that I am not as young as I once was, lol. 

This is my first personal foal to be born. All the others I did foal watch for were for friends or ranches I worked out of. This feels like a whole different thing when it's you personal mare and foal. I can't wait to meet this nugget. My mare is officially 17 days overdue. I know that's not uncommon of maidens. The night before last she was so restless I stayed up all night watching her. Last night she wasn't as restless, I checked on her a couple times and tried to sleep in between which really didn't do me any good, ha!

This late morning, I noticed her milk when from clear to cloudy and ph was down a little, so at least there is some progress. I have a doctors appointment to take my mom to Thursday and we are supposed to get some thunderstorms, so I'm sure she'll be aiming for then. I'm so excited and so impatient!

Oooh your very first own foal, that's very exciting, even though you've helped with birthing/foal watch for others.
With the milk and ph dropping, it looks like she's going to mean business! Good luck!

And I totally feel you about the all nighters in your thirties. It is hard! Haha
With all the international people I spoke with here on EV (+ the Discord), you'd almost think it would be nice to have people in another part of the world watch it a little bit, while you enjoy some sleep. Though I believe that's a bit more complicated to get the video streams to work.

Anyway, good luck with the whole birthing. And hopefully we'll see you back here with some positive news soon! (or not too soon with that doctors appointment and thunderstorms coming up

I'm excited! I bred her to a black stallion and she's red, so with her genetics she can have a red or a black. This stud had mainly fillies this year. He's also a smaller stud he stand 14.3, she's just about 15.
I'm so impatient I want to meet it.

That would be cool to be able to have others in other countries and time zones to help with foal watch! What a nifty idea!
I was thinking about doing a camera but we have no wifi at the barn so it doesn't help me any. Good thing she is only about a mile down the road so its an easy drive to check on her.

I've spend my nights playing Sims 4, Equiverse and practicing some programming in between popping in and out of the barn. And binge watching Critical Role, haha!
The barn owner yesterday was asking how much longer because she looks miserable lol.

Aww how exciting! I hope everything goes well and you end up with a nice little baby soon! Keep us updated :) 

WE HAVE A BABY! Lol. I know it's a little late. Baby was born Wednesday afternoon out in the pasture. Mama(Sylvie) did great. When I got there baby was up and wobbling around. My gelding was trying to protect mama and baby, bless his heart he thought it was his, haha. We put him up and he was just very intensely watching us handle them. 
Sylvie did end up retaining her placenta so I've been getting her on the mend this last week. Through all this she has been a wonderful mama and taking good care of her baby. I am so proud of her with how good of a mama she is for a first time. I really thought we'd have some issues with her not knowing what to do or not standing still for baby to nurse but she took to it right away. She protective but let's me handle baby. She's been feeling much better and today was the first day I put them out on grass. She was very happy to be out of the barn and grazing. 

She had the cutest red colts. I could not be more happy with what she gave me. He is darling! He's so friendly and curious and wants to know what everyone is doing! I love him so much! I am so excited to see this little guy grow up and to see what he will become.

mama literally had her twin, congrats!

She did have a mini here! I am so happy she did! He's so funny! Today he was trying his turbo speed out in thew paddock. I can not wait to see what he will grow up to be like. I saw him yesterday do the smallest slow little lope, then extended out into a nice even lope, I was sitting there watching him like, oh man I think he's going to be my ranch riding horse, lol

one of my friends horses had a baby. she is really cute and is the exact opposite color of her mom.
