Genetics after using coat applicator?

#272739 Posted on 2024-04-03 15:43:33

Hello.  Say I use a coat selector and I choose black.  Will the horse necessarily be EE?  Or could it be Ee?

Edit: Asking mostly because of this colt and this filly.  They're both EE Aa (bay) right now; I want them to be EE aa (black).  I know that using coat applicators and choosing black would get rid of the A alleles, but if there's a possibility of them becoming Ee in the process, then it's not really worth it to me.  (Because Ee aa and EE Aa are both an equal number of alleles "off" from what I really want, EE aa.)

i looked through my user log and in all 3 times i used a coat applicator the resulting genotype was Ee (eeAa -> Eeaa, EeAA -> Eeaa, and EeAAt -> EeAta).
3 times isn't enough to say whether it's a guarantee, but it's certainly a possibility.

Hmm.  Well that's kind of disappointing.  Thank you for the information, though.
