procreate help?

i've been trying all day to import my bases into procreate but whenever i open them it's just a flat image with no layers. both psd and tiff doesn't seem to work. my bases were all originally made in autodesk sketchbook which i quit using because it was too frustrating to work with. i'm also using an ipad and trying to grab the files from my icloud drive so i'm wondering if those could be causing some kind of trouble? but i've been able to open psd files from other people fairly recently, i just can't remember if i did anything special to make them work at the time.

i'm really bad with tech stuff so i guess i'm missing something important here? i couldn't find a clear answer online

I've always done this - 

 - go to files
 - press down on a psd
 - hit share
 - click procreate
