getting my own horse!!

#259955 Posted on 2022-08-16 15:04:40

Hey everyone, i haven't been active here for a while ive been so busy with real life. But currently ive got a good job thats been going on for a year now(i started when i was just 14!), im making pretty decent money, i've started doing rodeo(i ride steers and do chute dogging). I've been saving money up for a while now, my parents want me to svae for a car, but ive got other plans.

Like most people on here, ive always wanted my own horse. My dad had horses when i was younger, they sold them when i was 8, yadad yada ya. Anyways, so ive secretly been looking for my own horse for a few months now, There have been some pretty nice one, yes, but nothing that just really screamed "Your the one! I want you!, if that makes sense?

Well about a week ago, i saw where one of my cousins friends posted about a horse she was looking to sell. I asked her how much, all these other things. But i think i finally found the one! She is an 18 year old paint mare. Shes underweight, the other horses having been picking on her. She is also blind in one eye but it doesnt affect her much.

She told me she wants $1,000 for her, which if you've seen the horse market lately, thats really good! I know she sounds like she could use some work, but im ready to do that for her. So, i talked to her owner and i told her i could have the $1,000 in a few weeks im just waiting on my check, and im selling my goaties. So, she told me she would hold her for me.

OMG congrats!! When I moved to Indiana, my parent's promised to get me a horse since we have a barn. Unfortunately Sunday, my dad said that it wasn't going to happen at all now that my parent's got divorced last year....Good to hear that your getting a horse!

So happy for you!! I hope you two form a wonderful connection and get to make some amazing memories together! I remember how excited I was to get my own horse when I was 14 c: My grandparents got me a 4 year old red dun quarter horse who was barely broke to ride... So you can imagine how that went xD ive had her for like five years now and she's much better. Broke to ride but still as sassy as ever lol

I would love to see pictures of your girl as well! Paints are always gorgeous ♥ Heres my girl Phoenix

Oh she's absolutely stunning!! I love that shade of bay, and her markings just make her pop. And yeah, someday I will get my own horse, but it doesn't sound like it'll happen anytime soon..

I'm usually not a bay person, but when it's the right shade like her I love them. Same with chestnuts.

Congrats! She certainly is pretty :) I wish you many happy times with her!

Make sure you have a vet check her right away as well, not sure the last time her teeth were checked but if they haven't been recently her teeth could also be contributing to her being underweight.

Update!

So sorry for the long wait, but she is doing good! We had her checked out, she is blind in the one eye, but doesn’t affect her too much, and we found out she is actually 20. So I haven’t rode her yet, since her age and how underweight she is we may or may not ride her, at the moment she is just a pasture buddy. She has started putting on weight and is doing absolutely amazing, her personality is beyond what I could’ve imagined. As it’s changing seasons into winter her coat has changed dramatically, she looks almost solid brown now(with the paint markings ofc). I’m on mobile at the moment but I will add a picture of her in a bit!

I'm so glad she went to such a amazing home! I'm sure the two of you will do great things even if you don't ride her at all. She's definitely in the right hands! Hope the both of you continue to progress! ♥

This image is from a few weeks ago, you can see some of the progress she has made as far as putting on weight. Her coat is darkening as I said, but you can’t really tell in this picture. Previous owner said she used to be a barrel horse, she hasn’t run any in a while but I’m hoping to just start her with some light exercises in a few weeks possibly, then see her potential and go from there! Kinda just see what she has left in her before I set any kind of career goals on her if that makes sense?
*peep her buddy Mason in the bg*
