Cheyenne
The small filly had took interest in a butterfly that had been flying around her, but her attention went to the mare that had waken up. She walked over listening to the mare words. Though, when she heard what her name was, her eyes widened. "Your Gaia? The one that everyone always mentions every now and then?" she said curious as she tilted her head to the side wondering as to why everyone had talked about her every now and then. A moment passed before Cheyenne exchanged her name to Gaia, "Cheyenne, but most just call me Chey," she said with a small smile. She could feel the dry mud on her coat, and hoped they would come by some sort of water source so she could clean herself off at some point. Although the mud still covered her pink tips making her seem ordinary except for her eyes. Cheyenne could feel that the mare had something against her, or the fact that something about her didn't make Gaia all to happy. She wasn't sure why, but she didn't question it. The question that came from Gaia's mouth made her miss her parent's even more, but she answered, "Denali and Cyrus," she said.

Gaia
Gaia was beginning to stretch out her legs and prepare for the trek when Chey revealed her parentage. She froze and her heart hammered in her chest. She turned to look at Chey, horror sweeping over all of her features. Her throat had gone dry and she was struggling to make words come out of her mouth. Instead, she took this opportunity to look over Cheyenne with dangerous scrutiny. The little black filly looked like any normal horse, but Gaia could see similarities between her mother and Chey. It almost made her sick. They had the same eyes. Anger was steeping deep inside of her and Gaia had to take a step back to regain her composure. It wasn't Chey's fault who her parents were and what had happened to Gaia wasn't Chey's fault either. The only thing she could do was make sure the filly got home and then she would never have to think about any of this ever again.
Gaia hadn't realized it but she had closed her eyes while she calmed herself down, so when she opened them again she forced herself to look disinterested. "Alright, Chey, when you ran up here do you know which direction you came from?" she asked, starting to move back down the path they had come up on.

Cheyenne
Cheyenne took a step back tilting her head slightly as she saw Gaia's reaction to who her parent's were, but she knew things weren't adding up even for how young she was. She was too scared now to even say anything to the mare after seeing how angry she got. The filly just gave a small nod to the mare, "Y-yeah," she said walking after the mare as she took it easy on the trail. Going down the trail was definitely easier than going up the trail. Chey slid down the trail a couple of times, but she found it a bit fun. It was the first time she had some fun since she was separated from her herd. Though, as she came to the end of the trail, she looked around before looking back at the mare, "I-It's this way.." she said walking in the direction in which she came from. At that point, Cheyenne had started to get hungry more then before as she hadn't went this far without nursing. Soon later, and filthy filly had returned to the spot where she lost the herd. She drooped her head as there was still no sign of the herd.

Gaia
Gaia walked in silence behind the small filly, thousands of thoughts milling through her head. She hadn't even been a year old when she was cast out of her herd and she hadn't seen them since that awful morning. Hearing Chey talk about her herd and her parents made Gaia feel a list of many different emotions and she wasn't quite sure how to handle them. She moved almost as if she was in auto-pilot, completely lost in her own thoughts. She snapped out of it when she nearly tumbled over the filly who had stopped in the middle of a field. Gaia lifted her nose to the breeze, hoping for anything that resembled her old family. Nothing. Gaia then moved her white eyes towards the ground, unsettled by the lack of hoofprints on the ground. She turned to Chey and spoke. "Which way were they headed?" she asked the disappointed filly. She wasn't really looking at her, more so looking past her.

Cheyenne
Cheyenne was disappointed that there was still no sign of the herd or her mother Denali. The filly slowly turned and looked up at Gaia. She was still a bit frightened by her due to her reaction from before, but she was the only one that could help her get home. The filly tried to remember what way the herd had gone, but all she got were flashes. She could hear the thunder, she could see the lightning light up the sky, but she could feel how frightened she was during it all. She saw flashes of what a couple nights before, but she couldn't make everything out. The whole thing just frightened her even more as she started to shiver a bit. Chey looked around to try and see if things looked familiar, but with the storm, everything looked different as to now. The little filly lowered her head as she took a couple steps to the side away from the mare. She couldn't take much more of anything with everything going on. She just about had enough.

Gaia
Gaia watched as the filly stepped away from her and lowered her head in defeat. She sighed, turning towards the breeze again. It had been a long time since she had been this far away from the mountain but she closed her eyes and forced her memories of life before getting chased off to resurface.
Gaia trotted through the trees, tail high in the air, as her mother sauntered ahead of her. The air was warm and a soft summer breeze flitted through the branches high above the little filly's head. She was four months old in this memory, maybe a little older than Chey. Gaia quickened her pace and nudged into her mother's side, content. They approached the river and Gaia reared back, splashing into the shallows when her front hooves came back down. Her mother nickered with disapproval but the loving glint in her eyes said otherwise. Gaia frolicked for what seemed like hours, chasing toads and making faces at the magical koi fish that tickled her fetlocks. She only looked up when she noticed the sun had disappeared. Disappeared behind the mountain in front of them.
Gaia opened her eyes and was met with reality again. Chey was filthy and disheveled. "Come on, we're gonna get you cleaned up and then we'll come back and try again." she said, turning towards the direction of her memory. She started to walk, her green and white tail swishing back and forth.

Cheyenne
Cheyenne slowly followed the mare keeping a small distance as she hung her head down low. Along the way, Chey had occasionally looked over to the side. She saw her mother, as her hopes rose. Though as a tree blocked her from Chey's sight the vision had disappeared causing her hope to fade. At this point, the filly had started to miss her mother so much that she just started to see visions of her. Cheyenne slowly trailed behind Gaia as her stomach felt empty. As they approached the river, Chey stopped to look around the area. Still no sign of anyone as Cheyenne just froze for a minute keeping her head towards the ground. She slowly walked over to the water stopping as the water got to her fetlock's. It was cold, and she looked at the water at her reflection. She sighed as she went a bit deeper into the water and laid down letting the current clean up most of the mud on her coat. Once she was clean enough, the filly stood up and turned around walking out of the river. She turned to the side as the water dripped from her black coat that had darkened now that she was clean. Not only that, but the pink tips of her mane and tail had finally revealed themselves.

Gaia
Gaia watched as Chey cleaned herself off in the river, going back into her own thoughts again. Soon the little filly would have to eat and based on her size, Gaia could make the educated guess that Chey was not weaned off of milk yet. Frustrated, Gaia shook her head and waded into the water. The coldness of the water provided her with the shock that she needed to get out of her angry thoughts. Gaia was consistently reminding herself that she couldn't take out her mixed emotions on Chey but with no healthy outlet, all of her negative thoughts were trapped inside of her head. The green paint mare laid in the river, letting the water cover her body up to her cheeks. After a few moments she stood and waded back out of the water and stood on the shore, dripping and cold. "Alright, I really doubt that Cyrus would have taken the group very far once they realized you were missing. We'll head back over to where you got separated and hope there's some clues I missed." she murmured.

Cheyenne
Cheyenne let the sun dry her off mostly, but before they left, the filly shook off most of the access water. She gave a small nod as she looked up at Gaia for a quick moment before walking beside her back to where Cheyenne was abandoned. She would admit that it felt better to have all that mud off of her as her true coat shined in the sun. Her black coat glistened in the sun as her pink very minimal pink highlights showed themselves. Chey wasn't too talkative or playful like a foal should have been, but since that storm, her life changed for the worst and all she wanted was her mother. The only thing she cared about at that point, and as time passed the less hope she had that they would find her. Chey knew her mother wouldn't just disappear without a trace like this, and that worried her as she knew something wasn't right. She may of been really young, but she was smart. At least a little bit smarted then the other foals in the herd.
As the two approached the spot yet again, Chey slowly looked up hoping someone was there. Her eyes widened in surprise at what she saw, "Mom?" she said out loud without thinking as she trotted up a short distance ahead of Gaia. Though her mother just stood there lifeless as the filly came to a stop a short distance from her so called mother. She titled her head knowing that something just wasn't right. Little did she know it was just a figment of her imagination and that her mother was just another vision.

Gaia
Gaia watched as the filly called out to nothing, concern making her brow furrow. Deciding not to make a big deal over it, the mare walked forward and stopped beside Chey. "We can walk in that direction for a while, if you think they headed that way." she said softly, dropping her head as she spoke. She started walking, not wanting to freak out the black filly by reacting to whatever she was imagining. Something was definitely wrong with the energy around them and Gaia couldn't pinpoint why everything felt.. different. It finally hit her that she hadn't heard a single animal since waking up that morning. No birds, no woodland creatures, no fish in the water. The forest was empty. It was definitely unsettling. If the animals in the surrounding area had disappeared, Gaia didn't want to think about what had happened to Chey's family.

Cheyenne
The black filly looked at the figure until it faded. She felt a bit embarrassed as she walked beside Gaia in search of the herd. There was absolutely no sign of any other creature except for the both of them. Cheyenne was just about starving at this point as her stomach rumbled every now and then. Sometimes she had even tried to nibble on some flowers. It had felt like the two had been walking for awhile in search of the herd, but Chey was young and wasn't used to travelling like this. She occasionally looked up at Gaia wondering why she seemed to have something against her, but why?
In the meantime, Cyrus and the herd were in the spot that Cheyenne had been abandoned during the storm. Denali looked around frantically looking around for her filly, but there was no sign of her. "How could I not have looked back to see her struggling?" she said to Cyrus feeling like it was her own fault.
"Denali you wouldn't have known. The storm was intense, and it was hard to see anyone except for when the lightning hit. She'll turn up my love," said Cyrus to try and comfort her mate as he felt bad as well. His daughter was alone. At such a young age, and they had to find her soon. Little did they know that their little filly Cheyenne was standing in front of them a few moments before with Gaia. Though neither the sisters or the herd could see each other. They were living in separate worlds.

Gaia
Gaia walked with Cheyenne for about an hour before she realized that the herd was long gone. She hadn't seen a living soul all day, not even a bug. They were completely alone. Gaia turned her head to look at the filly who was helplessly nibbling at a couple flowers and sighed deeply. This filly was going to starve to death and there was nothing Gaia could do if she couldn't find Chey's herd. There was no point in freaking the black filly out, Gaia would take that burden on her own. "We can rest here for a while." she said, defeat settling on her shoulders as she stood underneath the shade of the trees. She swallowed her pride and sent out a silent plea that someone would come along with the means to feed Cheyenne.

Cheyenne
Cheyenne turned over to Gaia and walked over laying down beside her. She curled into a ball before closing her eyes. It had been a long day of travel, and she was worn out. The small filly felt empty inside in more ways then one. Hunger and the loosing hope she had of finding her herd. The soft breeze ran through her mane and tail as she slept. Chey was sore, but she would keep going if she could. She mumbled some words in her sleep every now and then, but she would soon learn the real truth. The real truth about everything going on. As time went on, Cheyenne would shiver a bit every now and then, but she slowly got the rest she needed. The filly dreamed of her parent's and the herd, but it didn't take long for her to remember about the stormy night. Although she remembered something from the night before. Flames. She couldn't make out the black figure with the burning flames. Chey woke up looking around, but everything was calm, peaceful, and quiet. She sighed and slowly stood up on her tiny long legs.

Gaia
Gaia snoozed lightly as Chey slept, opening one eye every once and a while to make sure the filly was still breathing. She wasn't sure on what she was going to do, but she felt instinctually protective over the black foal. Perhaps it was their shared blood or maybe the fact that Gaia empathized with the filly's loss of family, but Gaia would never let Cheyenne know she felt like that. Eventually they would find someone and Gaia would never have to think about her old family or the family she never knew she had. While she dozed, she dreamed of her mother. But as time went on, her real father slowly started to seep into her dreams. He was mumbling about something and Gaia couldn't make out what he was saying but every once in a while she'd hear Cheyenne and Denali and her heart would thunder in her chest. She nearly leaped awake when she heard Cheyenne wake up. Gaia snorted softly and shook her head, shaking her dreams away.

Cheyenne
Cheyenne didn't say anything about what she saw in her dream. The filly shook off some dirt that settled on her black coat as she stumbled a bit. Since she was not able to nurse, it had started to catch up to her. As the more time passed, the less she felt like herself. Chey was slowly loosing energy and strength and could feel the change. She looked up at Gaia with lost eyes, "They're gone aren't they?" she said a bit quietly. It had been a long day's travel without any clue left from the herd, and Chey was starting to get the hint that she wasn't going to see her parent's again. The small filly still hoped for a good answer, but that was highly unlikely. She looked at Gaia for a minute or two before looking down at the ground. She couldn't get the flames out of her head and what it was that the flames came from although she stayed quiet about it. Cheyenne shivered as she wanted whatever it was to get out of her head. She wanted to forget it, but she couldn't.
