Burr pranced as he was led out of the stall. Everybody was racing that day for Arepas, and they were crossing their fingers that Burr would put the icing on the cake for the win. He was groomed and his mane was brushed. Burr's jockey called out last minute, and they needed somebody fast.

     The horse and rider were once again surrounded by a crowd. After about 15 minutes, the two finally made their way out of the crowd. Hernando hoped off, and pat Diva on the neck. "I knew you could do it girl, " he said softly to the mare. Diva now knew 100% she would go far with her racing, and even though some of the others didn't believe it, she and everyone she knew did. That's all that mattered.
     When Diva was back in the pasture cantering about, Hernando was putting Diva's tack up when he overheard someone saying they needed a jockey. Once the tack was up, he walked over and offered, "I overheard you saying that you needed a jockey. I'd be willing to replace your old one. Though I wouldn't know the horse, and I've never ridden a colt." he said still willing to do it.

Burr's groom looked over with a smile on their face. "Of course. His race is in five. We'll meet you down there by the track." Burr was tacked up and groomed, and the colt trotted to the side and snorted, bucking with every step. "You calm down," he snorted and shook his head. Walking down to the track was their worst enemy, Windfola, a grey colt itching to beat ARS. The stables Windfola was living at, POS, had been beating ARS for years, but this was supposed to be their great comeback and take a trophy once again.

     "All right," Hernando nodded, and walked down to the pasture. He hung out with Diva for a few minutes then went to the track. He was a little unsure about this, but too late to back out. They needed a jockey, and he was going to give them one. He mounted the colt, and was a bit unsure. "I'm not used to this." he said with a bit of a chuckle once he was on the colt's back. "I'm not going to make any promises I'm telling you that," he said before they were led to the track.

Burr's groom giggles. "You behave now, Burr." They let go of him and the energetic colt trotted right to the gates and loaded with no problem. He was number 2, and Windfola was 1. He pawed the ground, snorting and taking in the sounds of men and women shouting and shoving a fussy silver bay into the stalls.

     "Calm down boy. Focus," Hernando said in a calming matter a few seconds before the gates opened. He was unsure on how this was going to go, but he gave it his best shot. Hernando focused only on the horse he was on, and the track ahead. The two were at the front of the pack, and kept going. "That's it boy stay at this pace. When we're at the stretch is when we'll speed up. Save your energy," he said keeping calm. 

Burr huffed ears pinned at the grey stallion next to him. Around the last turn, the crowd's faces were purple and they were screaming. Just as Windfola thought he was getting away, Burr charged after him and in a matter of seconds was 4 lengths ahead.

     Hernando was a bit surprised with the colt's speed. Sure Diva had a lot of it, but he wasn't used to riding a different horse. Though, he just kept on riding. It seemed as though they were just racing, and a second later the race was finished. First place. Hernando was shocked. He had never met this horse. He had never ridden this horse, and yet they still won. Windfola was defeated. Not all of the great ones are unstoppable.

Burr shook his head, snorting. He carried his head high and walked proudly to the winners circle. He posed for the camera, as if he knew what they were doing.

     Hernando pat the colt on the neck chuckling. "Somebody enjoys the attention," he said. It was a successful few days, but Hernando was tired. He had raced in 5 races in 3 days. He would definetely take the next day off, and so would Diva. He could tell she was exhausted, but she still pulled through.

The groom that took care of Burr laughed as they led him back to the barn. "Congrats."

     When the whole thing was over, Hernando did some quick things around the stable, then left for the night. He was tired, and sure did need a day off. Diva was placed in her stall for the night, and she munched on her meal gratefully. She was exhausted, and so she fell asleep quite quickly that night. It sure would feel good to have a day or two off. 

     Snow, who had won second place in the last race, now found herself trotting around the pasture happily. A stable hand tried to keep her still for just a second so he could tack her up but she didn't give him a chance. Finally, when the stable hand managed to grab Snow and attach the lead rope to her halter, he lead her out to the horse pool. She splashed around happily, completely ignoring the trainer standing off to the side who tried to get her to focus on working. After a while, she heard the trainer sighing and she let Snow do a she pleased for the remainder of the time at the pool. 

     The next day was pretty slow. The few visitors were loading up their trailers, and heading out. Diva had kinda slept in again, and she was a bit sore. She was placed in the pasture for the day, and she didn't do much. Everyone was tired. Some of the grooms even had to clean up the place. People who just came to watch the races hadn't cleaned up their own messes, so some of the grooms were assigned to do so. Nobody wanted to be there, but work still had to be done.
