Marking Applicator Question

So I'm in need of some new stock to add to my solid Clydesdale lines, however, I breed for Western, and it's proving impossible to find Western statted or foundie solid Clydes for sale. I do happen to have a Marking Applicator laying in my inventory, however. Now my question is, if I get a foundie sabino Clyde from the EC, can I use the Marking Applicator to turn it solid? Or does it only work to add patterns/markings, not completely remove them?
