Hello everyone! I'm Red Mountain Farmstead, or Demo, as you can tell. I am currently 16, a junior in high school and has no job at the moment, which I really already want cause I know where I want to start. Right now with this whole covid thing I haven't really been able to play volleyball OR go over and ride horsies *sniffle sniffle* so now I'm starting up art again, but this time, digital.

So anyway, to help me start off I have a few couple of questions, maybe 2 or 3, that I wanted to ask some of you lovely players! You don't have to answer all of them, just which ever you're more comfortable with!

1. A website. 

So I see many players who have their own website for their characters and such and wanted to know which ones you all use and how comfortable you are with it. I'm taking a photography class and for one of our assignments we had to make our own website using weebly. Now, I'd like to still use it for my characters and characters I bought, but I would like some recommendations.

2. Art tools

At the moment I'm using autodesk sketchbook. It worked perfectly for me in the past, I made a cat character and now can't find it ;-; I want to know what apps you use or what sort of desktop you all use,

3. Line art

This is one that I feel is a very important question. So, I know there is a lot of free lineart out there for use and such, but I wanted to know who else does line art? I'd sort perfer to work with those that belong to players here in game, for some reason I feel more comfortable with that, but I would like to try some outside lines.

Weebly is a pretty good site builder to use and that's what I started with, but due to a very annoying glitch that changed the language, I moved to WIX which is a pretty nifty site. Haven't touched it in years though ;-;

For art, I use Krita and occasionally Photoshop. But Krita is my fave ♥
It's a lil confusing at first though.

There's a handful of people who make their own lineart, me being one of them. I don't really use free lines anymore unless I'm feeling especially lazy XD
There's not a whole lot of players who actually sell or share F2U linearts on EV though. If you find a lineart on DA or some other site, but you're unsure you can always ask one of us Mods to be sure ^.^

I'll just go bit by bit here if you don't mind ^^ Get ready for a text wall ;)

1. A website. 
There are MANY places you can go to to make a website. Since you have had to use weebly, for school, you may want to stick with that. I use weebly to house my human roleplay characters that don't have anything to do with my horse OCS lol. You can have multiple sites on your account. :3  Here are some other suggestions for sites as well ♥
 Wix; It's a little complex at first but has a TON of customizable options. It also has deviant art integration ( since they now own deviant art)
google sites; I have not used this myself so I don't have much to say about it, BUT I hear it's great.
Toyhou.se; You could, for character storage make a Toyhou.se account. You will need to find an invitation code, but a simple search on deviant art/ asking around in a big art discord channel works too. It's a website dedicated to character storing.  You can have bios, upload art of your character, allll sorts of fun stuff!!

2. Art tools

*rubs hands together*

Art tools... Me PERSONALLY I use photoshop CS6, on a desktop computer with a wacom cintiq or regular  wacom intuos 5 pro drawing tablet.

You do have to pay for photoshop and you can only get  photohsop CC now which uses a subscription platform so here is a list of other free alternatives for drawing apps;

Krita,

Medibang paint,

GIMP ( more for photo editing, but you can draw in it as well.)

Fire alpaca ( be careful because this program doesn't /has trouble opening .psd files.)

There are a couple of one-time buy software like clip studio paint and affinity photo, and paint tool Sai.

3. Line art

I do lineart sometimes. It's actually quite soothing to me lol. If you'd like, you can shoot me a message and we can work something out. :3  I actually sell pay to use lineart on my deviant art account and sometimes i'll sell them one time " can only use it on EV" kind of thing. but tons of players on here use free lines or make their own. it's just a matter of finding them ^^

Yeah, weebly does have its times were it decides to throw a fit. I'll go and check out that website, is it hard to manage or pretty easy? Krita, I'll keep that in mind and I'll get around the difficulties after a while. And do you think I could possibly use one of your lines just to try it out? It'll be a rough draft, so I most likely will not sell it.

Toyhou.se caught my attention, think I'll give that a look as well as google sites. Krita seems to be more popular, so I'll most likely move off to that one then, see how it goes. I may just send you a message about the lineart later on, and like I told Ruby, I'll use it as a rough draft so no selling of it. And when you sell them, do you use real money or EVD / EVC?

1. A website. 

I use google sites as it's free and VERY easy to manage. I am very comfortable and would be happy to help you if you ever wanted to make your own. Here is the link to mine you can see how I set it up layout wise

2. Art tools

I use an app on my samsung tablet, it's called Ibis Paint X it isnt the most state of the art but it works and again it was free. Krita is another free one I'm playing with and its nicer 

3. Line art

People will randomly do sketch sales and such I know Bridger, Voodoo and I believe Feathered do those most often and they also sell them for relatively cheap. Personally I dont know anyone who does full on linearts but I could be wrong. Most people on here are perfectly ok with DA lines if you cant make your own. I believe Siren here on EV goes by 8Siren on DA and she has some F2U and P2U lines

Ok so it seems like people like google sites too. I'll definitely check that out. I may be getting a new tablet, as mine is old as hecc XD, and I've heard of people using Ibis Paint X. I'll keep them in mind when wanting different lines, cause I may start trying to make my own lines! And when people sell them, if you know, do they do it for real money or EVC / EVD?

Here it's usually EVD/EVC yes I don't believe we can sell things for real currency. DA will be points or real currency though.

I use Medibang Paint to draw which works pretty good!

I have a folder on Deviantart that has uh, maybe a bit too much lines / greyscales etc. I’m basically collecting horse linearts and sometimes dogs. Those are p2u and f2u. Different artists have different rules though. If you want i can send you a link?

Inkscape looks like a cool program for drawing lines, and it's free. Krita is excellent but I mostly sculpt so I don't do much digital art.

I'm looking for smewhere (free) to post a sculpting blog. Had a look at tumblr but found it too chaotic, I'm old and can't cope with stuff popping up all over the place. Lol.

You can use weebly or wix, I've used both before and they're easy to use and free.

I use to use GIMP for an art program, but now I use Kritia Studio, it's amazing. I am using a desktop(HP).

There is a lot of free lineart you can use from Deviantart, you just gotta read their rules for using it. There are some people who do lineart here, but I can't name them lol. Some people use photo references and draw their own lines over that. I usually find my lineart on DA but here lately I do a little bit of my own.

I'm using the google sites, and don't like weebly that much XD, but I'll look at wix. And I'll probably look around for some people who do line art anyway :P

I'll just drop by to say something about the programs - I have used a variety of them, for now I stick to the Clip Studio Paint + GIMP combo (I just feel more comfortable editing, cropping etc pictures in GIMP), and my system is Linux Ubuntu 16 on PC.
Free programs that I can recommend:

• FireAlpaca: it's the closest You can have to Paint Tool SAI, but free. Intuitive and simple interface, has few fun options. Nice for drawing lineart. What Bela said about its psd support is very important if You're going to use someone else's linearts - if they're already 'filled' with color, they'll probably be in PSD. Works on Windows and Mac.


• MyPaint - extremely intuitive drawing tool with infinite canvas, but You'd definetly need another program for picture editing. MyPaint have super fun brushes, but doesn't have tranformation tools and You can't set canvas size beforehand, which is why I tend to use it more for sketches and studies and less when I need drawing of specific size.


• Krita - Unlimited Poweeeeeer, You can even use it for animation! XD It has a lot of features, including pattern brushes and complex brush system, perspective grid, layers, masks, variety of selection modes, gradients, You name it. A lot of artists I know use it, I personally find it a bit hard to get accustomed to the interface and keyboard shortcuts (that being said, a lot of interface is customisable - finding things in the default version is just hard to me bc I learnt on different programs and I don't use it day-to-day)


• GIMP - very powerful tool, not the easiest when it comes to painting, but still the best I have for editing pictures. It's notorious for its untypical interface which is a bit hard to learn, this is why I usually don't recommend it as a painting tool (however I used it for years, so it proves that it's entirely possible). If You don't have photoshop, GIMP is worth having for picture edition. I personally find 2.8 version more handy to use, but 2.10 has a lot more options.

• Clip Studio Paint: Powerful, comic-oriented program with nice support. Intuitive, You can very well use it for both lineart and painting, even for short animation (altough the animation interface takes some time to get used to). Has built-in 3D references. It's not too expensive too, especially when it's on sale. Theoretically only works on Windows and Mac, but I found a way to make it work on Linux too >:D


• PaintTool SAI - famous for ease-of-use and easily modifiable brushes. Very similar to FireAlpaca.

Thank you! I think for now I'm going to stick to using Krita, GIMP, and MyPaint. Then maybe move onto Clip Studio Paint. And now seeing I can use Krita for animations I might just start making animations myself. Lets see how that goes, lol. And do you know if there's any any tutorials online on how to use Krita?
