Maize's first birthday.

Today is Maize's first birthday.

I would like to start this off, as this cat really brought me out of a dark place after I lost my fur daughter to a freak accident. After about six month of being depressed and just not myself, my husband surprised me with this kitten. Little did I know, she knew how to repair the hole left in my heart. When we got Maize she was so tiny and sickly, but she perked right up with TLC.  It took fur-ever for us to come up with the perfect name for our tiny kitten. After much debiting we decided  on Mazikeen, or Maize for short.

As we tried to teach her, her name, we quickly realized that we just could not get her attention. So after about a week of having Maize we took her to the vet for her kitten shots, and the vet confirmed she was 100% deaf. I was thinking me and my husband bit of more then we can chew, adding an deaf, sickly, tiny kitten to our family. But we quickly adjusted :)

Along with researching everything about deaf cats, we quickly learn she will up to her name. She is so destructive, if there is a glass on the counter, she will knock if off, if there is a straw in your glass, she'll steal it, a spoon in your bowl, she'll take it spilling cereal all over. Since she does not hear, her meows, sound like someone is murdering her LOL. The first time we heard her meow, I though something was terribly wrong.

But she is so sweet and I lucky we found each other ♥

Despite our ups, and downs this cat really means the world to me, so thank you for letting me introduce Maize. Do you guys have any deaf pets?

P.S I tried to upload the images at 300 but I guess the uploaded huge.. anyway I spent an hour type/ finding pics. Im done editing it. LOL enjoy :P

She is so incredibly beautiful! I'm so glad you two have each other. My best friend I live with has a deaf ferret named Loki. He's a fantastic creature. Sneaky and silly but very sweet and so funny to watch! He's awesome. His coat has gotten lighter since this pic, but he looks more or less the same:

Maize is absolutely beautiful...your husband did such a wonderful thing for both of you! My only experience with deaf animals are two dogs who lost all their hearing when they got quite old...it was such an adjustment. Happy Birthday, Maize!!

She is beautiful and sweet looking, that how I feel about my 2 cats, I love them to bits.

My cats names are Willow(grey tabby) and Mimi(dull tortoiseshell).
