GOATS

GOATS

#208803 Posted on 2019-09-09 22:20:12

So, husband and I finally got around to having a housewarming party this weekend after we bought our house in March. Last week, his buddy and coworker stopped by and noticed that our back property was very over grown. The last owners had no use for it and let it go. We had decided to buy me a new vehicle instead of a large mower (woops). So my husband casually mentions that we had talked about getting goats to help with the land up keep instead of another large purchase. Well, this friend got us goats for a housewarming gift 🤣 So these poor goats where tied to a post in our carport while we scrambled to build an area and shelter for them. It was raining so hard, the goats where wet, I was wet, my husband was wet, it was  miserable. There was goat pee and poo all over the car port. My dogs are mad, the goats hate my dogs, it's a mess. But I am totally in love with these goats already, and my husband is obsessed with them. I have been researching all day on what they eat, vets in the area, and  what they need to be happy. So far they seem content, they are very attached to each other and very affectionate towards us. Anyone have goats they care to share any info on? Would love any advice!

I've never owned goats, but there were some at one of the past barns we boarded at. I loooovvee goats. They're either mega jerks or the sweetest thing ever, and it sounds like you got the latter! Also, congrats on the house!

Thank you so much! My husbands coworker breeds Nigerian Dwarf goats, and I really want one of them 😂 I'm worried it won't be as docile as the ones we have. They don't climb or jump or anything.

We have two goats at the farm. They are total censored word here.

They get into everything. ruin everything they can...but they also free roam, so.

best of luck, lol

Thank you! It's been over a week now and they are slowly adjusting. We started fencing in a larger space for them today, so hopefully by tomorrow evening they will have just over an acre to enjoy!

ahh goats are sure fun. A handful at times, but fun!

My advice is, make sure your gates are well secured because they can be escape artists if given the chance. My parents got 2 goats to keep my sister's horse company after I had to put my horse down. They were little escape artists for awhile(because apparently almost 10 acres of field isn't enough for them hahah) but after my dad fixed gates, they no longer try to escape lol. I remember having goats when I was much younger too, but being too scared of them because we had a mean one that bunted x_x but the ones we have now are super affectionate toward people.
