Freaking out

#207036 Posted on 2019-08-06 20:02:00

I start my Sophmore year next Thursday and in my state 10th graders can go to our community college for dual credit. I have my placement test tomorrow and I am freaking out. My whole family thinks I am going to ace it and I feel so much pressure.  I mean what if I fail? Then I will get all the disappointed looks. I've studied and everyone tells me I will do great but my mind doesn't believe that. Sorry just needed to rant, and if anyone has test taking tips let me know. Time for a late night study session :/

I will keep you in my prayers for doing well on your test! If something goes wrong and you fail it, then you do. There isn't anything that can be done about that. So no use in stressing too much! It will make it that much harder to do well on the test. That being said I'm sure you will do fine if you are well studied for it!

Studying hard is important, but it is also important to take some time to calm your mind.
Figure out what relaxes and calms you. Everyone’s way of relaxing is different, but it’s easier to study if the mind is calm.
For me, it’s my little dog. Her antics sometimes makes me laugh and my stress melts away for a little while.
When i was in school, i would devide my studying time into blocks and take 5 or 10 minute breaks once in a while to calm down. I would either just sit and breathe calmly while counting to 10, draw or color a picture, listen to a calming CD, or read a little in a favorite book.
No need to worry, you’ve got this, and you’ll do fine.

@ Olympea thank you for the kind words

@ Wild Horse Cavern thank you for the tips I will for sure keep those in mind for this test thank you!

I am still very nervous but I feel a little better after getting a 90% on my practice exams. Hopefully that will reflect in real life.

Good luck! It sounds like you've worked really hard for this test. ♥
If you feel like you're panicking, remember to take deep breaths. I've been in college for a year and I still end up forgetting to breathe during exams :p

What helps for me is this breathing technique: breathe in and count to four, hold it and count again to seven, and then let it out and count to eight. It's designed to switch off your fight or flight response so you can calm down. You've got this!

@Bubbles thank you I am really hoping I do well, I hope I remember to breathe XD sounds like something I would forget

@Bandit that breathing technique really helped me thank you, I am still freaked but it is more manageable

Now there are issues with my application being processes and now that's worrying me, I am chatting with a very unhelpful person trying to get it figured out. I have my test at 2 today and am worried that if I study too much before I will overload my brain and my family is all being very pressuring. Ack my life right now

Practice exams are the best way to study (psych-grad here), so I think you'll do fine! It's likely that you'll do similarly on the real test. Good luck! You can do it!
