Question for Shetland enthusiasts

#206769 Posted on 2019-08-02 19:57:54

Hi all :)

I’ve decided to pick up a couple Shetlands and play around with them. I’m here to ask the Shetland experts a couple questions haha.

What colors/patterns are less common?
What discipline is the most common?

Hello! Welcome to the wonderful land of ponies!
Driving is by far the most popular discipline. But there's some people with good Racing and Dressage herds too. Personally I have every one xD

I'm not sure about less common colors as i don't pay much attention to colors, but Champagne and Creams are popular as well as any other modifier like Dun and Flaxen. A lot of people are fond of browns too. I'm partial to Splash for markings, but I think some people dislike Sabino?

Thanks, Sabriel! I’ll probably end up dabbling in Driving. I just joined the club, excited to get in to the pony world. :)

On this account, i raise shetlands for driving, but on my other account, i raise them for western.
I’m not really an expert, and i’m not sure what colors and patterns are less common.
However, i prefer splash and roan patterns. I avoad rabicano, sabino, tobiano, and overo, but i tend to make an exception for frame splash because i feel it looks pretty.
I like all colors except for gray, but favor cream variations, champagnes, duns, grullo, seal brown. I also love modifiers like silver, flaxen, and sooty.
For markings, i prefer star and coronet, but all markings are accepted.
