I have wondered this also.....

I think $10/week boarding is incredibly ridiculous and unrealistic. Boarding fees should be raised to align with stall costs. There needs to be a better balance.

Or maybe the cost of stalls could go down...? I quickly checked and boarding fees of my current horses are 14.5% of what they earned over night. All they earn is my income but apart from the stalls I have to pay for vet and farrier and their training and food, so I don't think I would like the cost of boarding to suddenly go exorbitantly higher... Especially that they don't always earn back the cost of showing fees...

I currently charge $60/wk in my stables and consistently have over 100 boarders (out of a possible 200). I've had it as high as $100 a week but the amount of boarders decreases exponentially. I'm not quite sure what the solution is, but people just don't want to pay too much per week. I also regularly kick people that don't pay. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I only charge 10/wk and i had over 200 boarders. Now people are leaving. I haven't changed my price, but they are just leaving. I don't know why. :/

I'm confused about what you mean by the cost of home stalls? Once you buy stalls they're yours forever and you don't have to continue paying for them so a one time fee of $1,500 for 5 stalls is only $300 per stall for the life of the stall. You don't have to continue paying $300 and you don't have to pay ongoing repairs and maintenance for them. That divided by the lowest fee of $10 a week is 30 weeks, the lifetime of 1.36 horses.
I look at stalls as an investment for my future, I plan to keep my deluxe so buying stalls means it pays off after 30 weeks of not having to pay lowest cost board, it's faster at higher cost of boarding. It's also for the luxury of not having to pay board since I show my entire herd they have to all be in a stable.

As to the reason less people might be boarding is that less people are showing, you unfortunately don't have to put your horse in a stable to do Riding School, which seems rather silly to me, and you don't have to actually have your board paid to train, only to enter shows, so people just don't bother.
If you want to have more income for boarding instead of raising rates maybe suggesting that horse must be boarded to be sent to a riding school, or that board must be paid to train? If you want the most bang for your buck as a deluxe player having arenas to train your own horses for cost savings and create shows for money making(creation is free and you get free money out of it). Creating a riding school which is free requires no upfront investment, but makes relatively low money unless you're lucky or have a dedicated user using them.
