I am in the market to buy 2 heavy winter blankets. I would like at least 1200Denier, 300g fill in them and they need to be water proof. I had a tough one for my gelding but he never actually wore it. I have heard good things about the brand. Those are about $100 each. I saw a few on amazon that are new and closer to $81 each. Has anyone used Hilason brand blankets? Or Challenger?

I buy blankets from Schneider's Tack online. Have dealt with them for years. They are comparatively priced with quality blankets to offer. I was actually looking at winter blankets for my horses the other day but since their blankets from Schneider's are still holding up, I decided that new blankets can wait.

We usually have pretty mild weather so I didn't get blankets for the boys for a long time, but they're much older now and need the extra bit of warmth in the rainy winters. I went with Saxon medium weight the first time and went with the lite this go around so I can use them a bit longer and I'll have the option to buy medium later if I find I need it. They're fairly cheap, but the fabric at 1200D is pretty durable. I had the last set for 4 years and the first thing to go was the straps not the fabric itself. The boys are out in pasture and while Opie's pretty decent on his blankets, Gwaine is a menace.

Thanks, I will definitely be checking those out! We have pretty harsh winters and my horses are pasture board they do have a small barn to run in but when we get to -30 with windchill in January I know we will need the heavier blankets! Our temps went from 40s to 15 overnight a few weeks ago and this was when it snowed, very wet snow, my poor Princess Sparkles was shivering when I went out so I had to dry her and throw a blanket on. I almost have to shop online for her and there are not any stores in our surrounding area that sell size 70" blankets...they are generally more common 76-78".
