Torpid Void

Harper
Harper waited for a minute, then trotted up next to him. "Where are we going?"

Louis
"I'm going to try and find where people are selling stuff and try to work out the currency system here. I can swing by the house and drop you off if you want, though."

Harper
"No, it's fine. I'll stick with you," Harper muttered.

Louis
"Are you okay?" As he walked, Louis decided to practice making the smoke. He found himself concentrating really hard just to locate it again, then reminded himself to use his imagination (whatever that even meant) more than actually thinking. He let out a small huff of breath and turned his attention back to Harper. Don't try to find it. It's all around me, right? Technically, since I'm in here. So don't tense up and concentrate so hard. Just... relax, maybe? This time, Louis concentrated less on finding the darkness and just kind of felt it. In place of the jarring shock he'd received the first time, it was more of a wave of cool, calming dark that shifted through him slightly. Wispy smoke appaeared in his hand, slightly bigger than before, and having taken substantially less effort.

Harper
"Well, I feel a little weird but yeah, I'm okay," Harper admitted, watching Louis curiously.

Louis 
"I'll have to ask Aerow about that next time I see her in person." He studied the smoke then turned to Harper, grinning. "It's bigger this time. And it was way easier! Maybe I'm not hopeless after all."

Harper
Harper stared at the blackness for a minute, finally looking away, which she quickly regreted. Her mind went blank and she didn't really know where she was or what was happening. She fell on her knees with a grunt, blinking a couple times to regain her eyesight.

Louis 
"Harper!" He shook the smoke from his hand. In a split second he was on his knees next to Harper, making sure she didn't completely fall. Oh, and trying not to panic. "Harp, can you hear me?"

Harper
"Mhmm," she hummed, going limp for a minute. She closed her eyes, which seemed more comforting than having her eyes open and not being able to see anything. Regardless of her helpless state, she seemed pathetically calm.

Louis
He was practically cradling her at this point. Completely lost as to what had happened or what to do, Louis just stared at Harper's lax form. What happened? Is she going to be okay? 

Harper
Harper blinked open her eyes again, relieved to find that her eyesight was returning. She tensed herself for a moment to see if she was feeling physically normal, even though she almost felt dead, but in an existent way.

Louis
He took a couple deep breaths. "Hey, kiddo, you alright?" Louis asked gently, upon seeing her open her eyes. 

Harper
"I- think so?" She replied, glancing at her body to make sure she was still there.

Louis 
"Do you know what happened? Are you dehydrated? We could go get water. Or is it too hot? Or something else...?" 

Harper
"Um... nothing feels right." Harper frowned, glancing at the sand for a moment to let her eyes focus.
