Only The Strong Survive

Jade
"I'll keep an eye out just in case. Beds are up here." Jade snatched her bag and started up the stairs. There was more than one exit choice from up here, she had checked for that, and the one room had a very nice vantage point. It also had a bed, which Jade had slept in the previous night. She reached the top of the staircase and waved down the hall. "More than one bedroom. Take your pick." She went to the room with the window and settled in a chair looking out. 

Alex 
Alex barely replied, choosing instead to nudge open te first door that he saw and flop down on the bed immediately, rolling over to face the wall to try and limit the amount of sun in his eyes. It was a fairly cloudy day, so it wasn't extremely light, which was perfect for his nap as he yawned, closing his eyes. 

Jade
All looked relatively quiet outside at the moment. Jade rummaged through her bag for something to do. She tended to get hungry when she was bored, and she didn't want to uselessly deplete their already low supply. She adjusted the hilt of her sword so it wasn't pushing into her side. Jake's fingers found a book of crossword puzzles she must have picked up somewhere along the way, and she dug to the bottom for a pencil. She never used to do these things, but it was something. She glanced out the window before flipping through to an empty one. She would have to scout around this place for things of interest to occupy her time later, after Alex got some sleep. Hopefully they could stay eight or more hours, because she was pretty sure he had been up all night. Jade filled in one word of the puzzle, checked the window, and then looked at the next hint.

Bryan
 A machete wasn't a sufficient weapon - even Bryan, someone who'd never had to use a real weapon in his life until recently, knew that. He'd been in hiding for the past year or so, only having went off on his own after the group that he'd been with had gotten attacked. For the past three hours, he'd been going from house to house, searching each one thoroughly for any decent weaponry. So far, he'd had no good luck.
 He gazed up at a window on the second floor of the house that he planned on approaching next. He stared through the window for a solid ten minutes, though was unable to tell if there was anyone in the room or not thanks to the distance between himself and the window. Might as well go and see, he convinced himself, beginning to slowly walk up to the front door, pausing every few steps to scan his surroundings.

Jade
She had watched someone approach the house, and after confirming it was not a zombie, left the chair and walked into the room Alex was sleeping in. Jade stood in the doorway a moment, decided not to wake him up, and exited. She returned to her watch room and grabbed her bag - had to be ready to run at any moment - and checked out the window for the undead one more time. Having decided they weren't going to be attacked within the next thirty minutes (hopefully; these things were about as hard to predict as Apollo's haikus) Jade walked down the stairs. She mulled over the best way to go about this without getting her head shot off. Well, she was probably going to surprise them anyway. She approached the door and opened it, not flinging it open suddenly but also not creaking it open slowly like a horror movie. Just your normal, every day, average door opening.

Bryan
 He jumped at the sound of the door being opened, raising his machete slightly, though for defense rather than attack. Once the being had opened the door all the way, though, he slowly lowered his weapon, realizing with a bit of surprise that the being - a girl who was slightly shorter than him - was perfectly alive and not about to kill him.
 "...Um... hi? Hi."

Jade
She smiled in what she hoped was a welcoming manner and opened the door wider, inviting him in. "Hi. My name's Jade. We raided the pantry and fridge already, but you can look again if you'd like. I have an extra apple if you'd want it." She glanced out the door, scanning the woodline, and then closed it, making sure to throw the lock back into place. 

Bryan
 "Oh- okay. My name's Bryan," he replied, wincing at how quiet and nervous his voice had sounded as he stepped into the building. "I'm, uh, really just looking for a different- a better weapon. Do you know if there's any here or not?"

Jade
She thought a moment. "What sort of weapon are you looking for?" 'Weapon' was such a general term. Maybe there was something here, but it might not be what he wanted. Personally, Jade didn't need to look for other weapons, content with her sword. She was glad she had chosen to bring it despite not planning on using it during her holiday.

Bryan
 "A gun? I dunno, something other than a machete... or any kind of blade, really. I am not nearly skilled enough at fighting the undead to feel comfortable with this," he replied dryly, holding it up for her to see.

Jade
She nodded. "Hold on a second." Jade returned up the stairs and reentered the room where Alex was asleep. "Alex." Jade wished there was electricity so she could flip the lights on, but she did the next best thing and opened the curtains fully. After she had caused sunlight to come crashing into the room, Jade jumped onto a clear spot on the bed. "Alex!"

"Jade, you are probably my least favourite person, like, ever." He grumbled, throwing an arm over his tired eyes as he forced them open, blearily glaring at the girl. 

Jade
"Love you too. You can go back to sleep, I just need to know where your gun is." She grinned, bouncing slightly in impatience.

Alex
"Why didn't you just ask rather than-" Alex's brain finally registered all that she had said and he sat up, eyeing Jade suspiciously. "Why?"

Jade
"Well, there's this kid downstairs... He has a machete, but he's looking for another weapon - like a gun - because the machete isn't a good fit for him or something similar."
