Don't see the point as it would make the genetic testing feature moot and even if you know heritage of the horse the only way to know its true base coat is to run genetic testing on it. Recode changed it so horses gray out with age, is a horse is under 10 you can simply see its base coat color in the graphic? While I would LOVE more variation in grays it was done more simplistic partly due to cost (the past mixed gray options were random, not genetic).

And as for those who toss grays or don't like them in their barns....too bad, I breed specifically for gray ♥ the gray "hate" isn't everyone, just saying!

I say nay (neigh?) only because revealing the genotype tells you what color the horse actually is. Adding it next to the grey seems redundant.

However, I DO like UlyssesBlue's idea of 'naming' the various greys like we had in the previous version. That gives it a little more variety AND can tell you better what's under the grey.

I like the realistic quality of this in the game. Very rarely have I ever seen a grey horse listed for sale with "xyz colour under grey."

You should have to gene test in order to know this, and if you can see the genes, you don't need the computer to tell you what colour it is.

Well, you wouldn't be able to tell if a grey horse was roan or pinto, but it still says that.. what difference is it to add the base color?

Unless it's an old horse that's gone completely white, you absolutely can tell if they're pinto or roan.

Everyone saying that it takes away the point of the genetic test, I disagree. Why? Simple. You can still get many other things from a genetic test on this game than just what the base coat it. For example you get what the dominant genes are, and multiple other things.

I support this idea, because I see it being very helpful. Continuing off above, if we had this feature, those people who dont understand how to read horse genetics/what they stand for [because we were all there at one point] would know the base coat without having to ask people what it is after spending money on a genetic test.
I also see this being useful because if gray was listed by the coat color before the horse was fully grayed, you would know ahead of time before you spend the money on a genetic test.

Just learn how to read the genetics..

That being said, it doesnt hurt to ask a person to reveal a horses' genetics...
I have paid for people to reveal in the past a horse I was looking for breed/buy w/e.

Well it would be saying no more then what a non grey horses would. I would be lost if I didn't know how to read genetics.

Well, Notori, it isn't as simple as "learn how to read genetics". I've been learning how to read them/how they affect offspring for....almost a year now? Now sure, it's not just horse genetics here on the game, but it still isn't that simple. This would be a lot easier. At least in the opinion of someone who remembers what it was like to be lost and not understand.

I wasn't attacking you or this suggestion by any means. I was adding what I thought was a simple solution.

"At least in the opinion of someone who remembers what it was like to be lost and not understand."

...I was around when genetics were introduced to the game and had to learn like everyone else... *eye roll*

I support, but I am also someone who uses my private horse notes to remember what color my foal was underneath the gray.

I don't know much about real life horse coloring, but isn't gray NOT a base coat? So why does it show up for example, when you're searching for horses?

Technically, the only true genetic base coats are chestnut and black. Everything else acts upon that to change/alter the appearance.

The coats come from the days before we had tests. Does it look grey? It's grey! Does it look black? It's black! I've had visual blacks test as bay and visual bays (even liver chestnuts in some cases) test as black. Understanding genetics gives you the full picture.

Personally, if you don't want to learn that E/e or E/E is black and e/e is chestnut...I don't really see why you'd care if it's listed as anything other than grey? You don't know how to read it so you won't know how it will breed anyways.

How does it help you if you don't understand the genetics? What can you do/do you gain by knowing what's under the grey but not understanding the genes themselves? (I'm actually asking, because I'm not getting it; not trying to provoke anyone.)

I do support this if we do it the way others have mentioned where it only shows after you genetic test. Though if they bring back search by genetics it would be moot because all you do is plug in the genetics to the search with no grey gene and BOOM it'll tell you what color it is under the grey.
