Which one is the "best"?

#171461 Posted on 2018-05-22 19:23:39

I'm wondering -
If you could buy any of these for free, which one would you buy?
Flaxen DNA tweak,
Pangare DNA tweak,
Silver DNA tweak,
Sooty DNA tweak,
or
Gray DNA tweak?
which one is the 'best' in your personal opinion? Just wondering because I thought it would be interesting.... and helpful if I ever wanted to buy one.

I would probably say either Flaxen or Sooty, as those patterns/colors/whatever seem to be the most rare from what I’ve seen, but don’t quote me in that haha. XD

It depends on what you breed.

For QHs/Appies I'd go with flaxen or silver.

Vanners Pangare/Flaxen

Minis Sooty/Flaxen/Pangare

Tekes Sooty

I think grey is the one I'd be least likely to go with. (If you have a boring grey horse you're better off buying a color randomizer as it typically removes the grey and gives you a really nice color too) If you really like the base color of a grey horse then you could buy the grey tweak to reveal the color underneath or you can buy a freeze gray and just freeze the color when the horse is very young.

Silver and Flaxen are good gifts as they are more common across the breeds.

Okay, thanks you two! I was thinking that silver and sooty'd be the best.

If were to buy for my GVs, I'd get flaxen or silver :)

Paints- Flaxen

Minis- sooty

If paints could be sooty, I would have chosen that for them as well

Flax is generally my favorite of the gene tweaks, though I like silver, pangare, and sooty as well.

But since flax is a recessive gene (and the others are dominant), it's more difficult to keep around in a herd. (The others will "show" on a horse even if they're heterozygous, though two silver genes is more striking than one.)

I'll also buy grey tweaks. Using a color randomizer is a nice option for store horses, but if it's a horse I've bred, I don't want to randomize it to a color that it couldn't have naturally inherited. So if I do wind up with a bred horse that has a pesky grey gene that I just can't seem to breed out, I'll use a gene tweak to get rid of it, haha. Or sometimes you get a foundation with a really nice set of genes under grey, and you don't want to randomize the good ones away.

it really depends on the breed for me.
pangare and sooty are two of my favorites, and while i like flaxen and appreciate the challenge of keeping it in a herd, for the EVC i spend i like to have a modifier that shows up on all colors even if not homozygous.

i'd love silver if it were more realistic in color, though i do think that silver + black with no other modifiers is really pretty.

i'll never buy a grey tweak though. like Aglet mentioned above, you might as well buy a coat randomizer in most cases. in addition, i really like the look of a greyed out arabian, and those are my main breed. i LOVE the freeze gray items, since they add variety to my 3 base color herd as well :P

Thanks Courtney Only the Wind and kahzie! You have some good points, Only the Wind. As well as you kahzie... I think I get it. Do any of you know what the best one for Chincos & Shetlands?

Both breeds have all of those colors available, so i think "best" is subjective. If you like the look of one modifier the most, then for you that would be the best one. personal preference, and all that :)

Also if you go to the "wardrobe" in your inventory, you can see what breeds have what colors/genes :)

I agree with kahzie for those breeds it comes to personal preference since they can have any/all of them.

For my shetlands I went with Pangare & Sooty since I also breed quarter horses (which don't have those colors, but do have my favorite modifier flaxen). My TWH are flaxen & silver, my tekes are sooty (only one available to them), QHs are flaxen & silver, Vanners are flaxen & pangare, minis are pangare, appies are silver & flaxen (with 1/2 having LpLp genes and the other 1/2 having lplp genes that I got using the marking randomizer), morgans are flaxen & silver... i think those are all the herds I've used tweaks on... um... yea...

my favorite color & marking combo on shetlands. (or morano w/ everything the same would be a gem too)

p.s. this is aglet on my spare
