"Wrong" specialty

#157813 Posted on 2018-03-07 10:13:36

Anyone else thinks that it would be cool idea to start bloodlines for "wrong" specialties (the less common specialties on the horse breed)?

I am breeding (currently) Trakehners with driving specialty. It is hard to find any other trakehners with that specialty.

Anyways, I think it is cool when horses like for example, clydesdales would be bred for a less popular discipline such as racing instead of the popular discipline, driving. I think it would be cool to be making bloodlines of horses which have the "wrong" specialty.

Like, dutch warmbloods for western as their specialty or miniatures with endurance as their specialty.

I had endurance clydes at one point; while I loved them and all. They were impossible to sell. If you like to have your own lines and don't want to sell them, it can be a lot of fun. However you will have a difficult time finding other breeders who have horses for stud/brood, or who will buy your foals if you ever sell.

If you want to start a project like that it is always nice to find other breeders to jump on board with you so that you have an outside breeding population, even if it is just you and a few friends.

I try to put all my horses into Western, whether it's a common discipline or not. So if/when I get into breeding I'm gonna stick with the same plan for all my horses, so yah, I like it, lol!

I think that new players like all the horses, no matter what their specialty is. As long as they are a high level and so on.. or at least I though so when I had just started xD

I love the challenge of trying to make a great bloodline of driving trakehners. It is pretty hard specially because I am still kinda new to this game and I have no clue about how to raise the horses stats faster.

Getting good treats like hay cubes or sugar cubes raises the stats pretty fast, if you want a daily thing. Also, upgrading tack or training the horses raises stats :) Does that help?

If you just use hay cubes and/or sugar cubes as the treats, your horses aren't going to do well in showing. I would suggest using red apples and turnips for driving. The higher non spec stats your horses have, the less likely you will place in shows.

*Note* that hay cubes, sugar cubes and peppermints are BAD if you want to have competitive horses as they raise non specialty stats which isn't helpful for show horses. Yes they do increases their stats faster but because it raises all the stats randomly, horses fed those treats will have lower specialty stats than other horses at their level that are fed the correct treats for their discipline, making horse fed hay cubes, sugar cubes and peppermints less competitive.
