Guitar players?

#154629 Posted on 2018-02-25 19:11:06

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to learn guitar. When I was a wee one I always played around on my dad's guitar. As I got older, I just thought it was too hard to even try to learn. And then on top of that, the guitar is in my brother's room and I really didn't want to ask him for it every time I wanted to play.
Welp, out of the blue, my pregnant sister calls and asks if I wanted her guitar. I loved her guitar a lot when she was still living with us so, of course, I was overjoyed and gladly took it. And surprise surprise, I have actually found myself wanting to put in the work to learn it now. ♥

Well, um, my sister plays guitar, but she just started lessons lol. She has them every Thursday and I could probably get her to tell me some tips, for me to tell you. :)

gahh, the only tip i can tell you is don't play bass -_- my fingers have been torn up more times than i can count, although the feeling of having successfully played a song is almost worth it ;)

Lumini- ya, that would be great!!
Midnight- Haha, I pressume almost every instrument is hard, but I'm teaching myself, so I kinda get the slack of not getting too frustrated when its hard lol
TG- I have always wanted to play bass, lol. I tried playing my brothers mandolin once... that hurt. xD

I play with an electric guitar.
There's an amazing app on the iOS store (i actually forget the name) but it takes you through lessons, teaches you chords and such, along with instructional videos + songs to play to. It gives you something to help you tune your guitar (the app tells you if its right if i remember).
I'm sure you could find it if you look long and hard enough, but I absolutely loved it.

I personally don't enjoy watching Youtube videos because it's just something I can't learn to because of how I learn.
Also, you can get on just fine without spending lots of money on professional guitar lessons! You can if you wanna get hands-on help, but I personally find it easy (but lots of hard work!) to learn on my own, with either a cheap book + CD you can buy in a music shop, Youtube videos, or an app!

The guitar I have is actually my brother's old one, don't really know the story behind it, but he got it when we were pretty younger. One day he just put it down and never picked it back up. We were moving out of the house we were currently living in and I just watched it get moved to the house me and my Dad were going to be living in. I never really got to fully ask him if I could have it, but since it was in the house I was living in and he never used it, I just picked it up and tried to start.
I personally don't have the time/money to continue learning (the strings on it are ages old, not playable) and don't have the money to change them. I also play Ultimate Frisbee now, which takes up a lot of my time.

But I'm sure you can do it! If you put the time and hard work into it, you can get it done c:

I bought myself a guitar (Squire telecaster) about 2 years ago and have been trying on-and-off to learn since then. I hope now that I'm living 2 blocks from where I work, rather than having a 45 minute commute to university, means I can use that extra time to put in some practice every day.
