Pre-recode horses, advice?

#152325 Posted on 2018-02-20 06:49:35

So I've reopened my pre-recode horses and have been competing them and using a step-like process trying to slowly get them all to the same age.

Firstly, ugh Flaxen QHs are so prettyyyyyy -squishes-

And on to your question. Personally I'll always say "do what makes you most happy". If having low non-specs just in case the breeding formula gets adjusted somewhere down the line is important to you keep those pre-recode kids separate and chug along until you have to lock up because you ran out of ponies unrelated to your poines. If keeping your line moving is more important, add in those foundations!

Thanks so much sabriel, I've been leaning toward breeding them with foundations. (Though I might take out the very best ones and keep them just in case the breeding formula ever does change).

Having faced / is currently facing this issue with my own ponies I took the following decision. Im not saying its the right one but its what Im doing/planning!

As a vague experiment I am raising a line of post recode foundation Trakes and the successive generations will be considered for running into the main pre recode lines at about ideally generation 4 or 5 depending on how low-ish the non spec stats go on the post recode horses. However this isnt set in stone!

Other than that with my Dutchies I am still trying to keep the post & pre recode horses seperate in case things change with the formula because you never know. I didnt want to ruin all the hard work with that breed yet!!

Ultimately the decision is yours & its not an easy one I know :o

ooohhhh I never thought of that! but it could be a good point and something to test out for those with more patience than I, lol. I definitely think Training has an affect though, based on how my poor Dutchies did when I first unlocked them for a while after training came out, the older ones just didn't progress as well as the younger ones that were able to get more of those stat boosts and use that higher level when they got to it. I'm almost dreading unlocking some of my older horses after seeing how well the new ones are doing! Those 700 stat 18 year olds from pre-recode just don't compare anymore xD

No it's definitely not easy. I've been working on those old lines for so long I don't want to loose that effort.

Another option might be to breed them with foundations at age almost-20, and then lock them, so you can breed them again down the line, in case the ability to breed down non-discipline stats returns.

That is a really good idea confessor. Especially for the stallions since they can be breed multiple times in a day. With mares you'd have to save their last breeding (which I'm not totally against).

Don't think of it as losing effort, think of it as continuing effort ;] Haha no but I can understand the sentiment, but also feel like it would show an equal amount of effort to keep going and then if the formula ever changes just breed down again! I'm very much a go with the flow-er when it comes to my EV horses these days though, my boat's been rocked by a lot of the changes over the years. (I'm still working my way down from Conformation as a discipline and will always miss my darling Sweds -sniffs-) If you've got the room though you could definitely breed then store the kiddos, though down the line you might have to be a little more careful in your breeding pairings

Yeah I understand the boat rocked feeling. my original post-recode Quarter Horses where already in their teens when training was re-introduced so they missed the last stat increase from that and then their foals were already over three when the foal training came out, so they are fairly far behind for their generation and age. which is why they are locked up still; though in a few weeks I have plans to unlock them and begin working with them again (I'm waiting for the phoenix project to catch up with them).

The perils of a developing game, right? xD On the one hand awesome new features that will help make great horses! on the other, now my horses look like they're behind. (or really really behind because they've been locked for so long, in my case ;] )

Don't tempt me, I still need more randomizers and tweaks for my Shetlands! I don't need another breed to spend credits on! But they would sure be pretty....

I do love that EV is always changing to be better and more entertaining, but sometimes it comes at just the wrong time for your own herd and you're just like "well that happened a day/week too late"
