Need Help Making Big Decision

#145317 Posted on 2018-02-02 13:27:33

Hey Guys! So I used to be on here a lot more, but I took a break from the game for a while on accident. I'm back now and want to stay back. However. I'm wanting to try to better focus my breeding. Right now, It's all over the place. I have multiple horses from multiple breeds, but the disciplines for each breed aren't the same. I have horses of the same breed where each one has a different discipline. I want to change that. however, i'm not sure what disciplines I want to have and which breeds I want to keep. I'm considering selling off the majority of my horses and buying new ones in the breeds and disciplines I'd want to breed, but would it be easier to change the disciplines of the ones I have, or just sell them off and buy new ones?

Hey there! Welcome back again, we're always happy to see people return. As for making your decision though it really is up to you what you want to focus on! Some people like to have only one breed in a single discipline, some people like to have multiple breeds in the same discipline, still others have many breeds and many disciplines and then there's some people that just have whatever they feel like at the time! There's also many different focuses for people some like showing, others do riding school some people really care about color or conformation and others only care about stats. EV is made for a wide number of people to enjoy it, but that can be overwhleming!

Right now it looks like you have quite the variety of horses and qualities. I think you fist need to decide what you want your main focus to be on. Color, stats, and conformation are the three big things people breed for in general, but there's lots of variations about how you go about it! For example I breed TBs with Black base coats first, stats second, so sometimes stock is hard to come by or I'll sacrifice stats in order to get the right color. I also breed Shetland ponies with Stats in mind so color and conformation come secondary so I have a wider selection of ponies to chose from to add to my lines, but I only focus on Driving as a discipline so I can't use ponies that are bred for Racing.

Once you figure out what you want most out of your horses you might take a gander at the Statistics page where you can see at the bottom table which breeds do which disciplines most heavily. In case you have a discipline in mind and want to pick a breed or a breed in mind and want to know what discipline is most common. You can definitely work with horses outside their common discipline but you will not have a large pool of outside horses to deal with if that's the case!

From that same statistics page you can also see by clicking on the breeds what genes the breed can carry, so if you want horses with certain genes or white patterns make sure you pick a breed that carries it!

As for selling off or keeping your current herd, I think it'll depend on what you decide you want to do! If you decide on a breed or two you already have converting is only 10k the first time, so if you have good stock go ahead and keep it! if it's replaceable, replace it! There's not wrong way to play when it comes to your horses! In any case though I wish you the best of luck making your decisions!

It really all depends. To convert the training on one horse is 10k (if they havent already been converted if they have its 1 EVC), so add up how the total for the horses you would want to convert the training of and see how much it would cost you to buy the replacement(s) of those same horses, then I suggest going with the cheaper one.  :)

One thing to beware of if you decide to convert a horse's training is your base stats.  Converting training only changes the stats the horse gained over its lifetime.  If a horse was born with high stats in a certain area, it will keep those high stats.  High stats for traits not associated with that horse's discipline will make it struggle in showing, and it will pass those stats on to any offspring.  The base stat chart (located next to your private notes) will tell you what you will end up with in those non-discipline traits.  If the total of those three traits is much above 60, it probably won't be worth paying that $10,000 to convert.

Foundation horses are usually a good candidate for conversion, sine they are born with low stats across the board.

Keep in mind that, if your horse has already had its training converted, it will cost two credits to re-convert the training.

Even if you don't intend to show your horse, I would recommend keeping those non-discipline stats low, because it is very difficult to sell a horse with high non-discipline stats.
