Well, life was going good...

I'm working on art right? I have like five thousand deadlines. Which is okay, I can handle it. 
Life is going so smoothly with art, I got an amazing base job done and all, it's looking great. Took me ages to find the right horse reference but I found it. Opened something new in GIMP so I could extract a color-

Gone, Lost, Forever doomed and never to be found again!

GIMP DELETED MY WORK!!!!!!!! 
*sighs* I will forgive it. I'll admit it may be a little tired from being used 24/7. But seriously??? The thing I hate most about digital art is that you never know for sure if your art 100% safe. It could just get deleted suddenly. Oh, well. I'll tell myself the same thing I always do when this happens. If it was deleted, it means that the next artwork you do will be greater... Hopefully.

That's one of the harder lessons about digital art . . . you have to consistently save, because the possibility of losing your work always exists if you don't. It's good to develop a habit of saving your file and then hitting the save shortcut throughout your work process. :p

Photoshop CS6 has a nifty feature of recovering lost files if it crashes. I've had it crash on me a couple times before I had a chance to save and it's a life saver. Granted, you may lose a bit of your work because it might not recover to the exact spot you were at.
Also what River said.. ctrl-S is a friend. (or whatever the variant is on other programs/computers lol)
Sorry you lost your work! I hope it doesn't happen again :(

@River- It sometimes gets annoying saving each layer every time I do one, lol. But I should probably get into that habit!

@Siren- That's nice! GIMP may have something like that but I have yet to find it. I hope it doesn't happen again. At that point I might just hammer my computer! XD

This happens to me when I am making YT vids, and of course its when I finally go okay I don't need to save for every single image I split/forget to save, that it happens :/ Thankfully, my program I use is pretty good at recovery/autosaves often, so usually its just a matter of re-finding the last few scenes I used and splitting them, but still a pain :/

Ya, it's a pain alright. But I'm happy now, because I found what I originally wanted as a reference, so I get to fall through with my original plan! So something good did come out of it. (; I just wish I didn't waste so much time!

Ducky - Ikr? I think when your stuff got deleted yesterday you gave it to me. XD

I always had the problem with gimp. I switched my art program because I would save stuff and then wouldn't let me open D:

Beacon- I get easily annoyed with trying to figure out new things lol. So I should probably just put up with Gimp's quirks lol. Thanks for the suggestion though! If I ever get into a place where I can't use Gimp, I know what to go to now. (:
