I'm new and confused! Why are low non-specialty stats better than high ones?

The lower the non-specialty stats, the better chance you're horses have of winning in the shows. :) 

Str: 3 +26

Spd: 4 +26

Agi: 4 +26

Int: 345 +81

End: 335 +81

All: 691

These stats are from my boy Moon Crystal, who has won in his first 10 shows, and he can only do better. :)

Basically, horses that have 62, or less non-specialty stats, those that don't have anything to do with one's discipline stats, the horse will show better. I noticed that horses that are above 62 non-specialty stats do not show well, such as my girl Gypsy Gold, who has 68 non-specialty stats, and hasn't won but 1 show; so she is placed into the Riding Schools. :)
