Here we go...

#123390 Posted on 2017-10-04 17:08:08

*sighs* I really didn't want to make this post, but alas I didn't want to leave anyone not on facebook in the dark. Early this morning, one of our dogs went into respiratory distress, and we had to rush him to our vet's office. He was taken into the back, and put on oxygen. I was sent out of the room by my mom, when the vet came back inside.

I knew, I just knew....When I saw my dad enter the waiting room, I knew Scooby's fate was determined. They had explained that the only humane option was to put him to sleep, as he was dying a horrid death otherwise. We got to say our goodbyes, and were sent to a private room, while they put him to sleep in the back. He went peacefully, and is no longer in pain. We are having him cremated as we can't take another burial. His ashes will be spread, and we will put up a memorial for him.

You all may be wondering, who Scooby was since I don't talk about him much. He'd been with us since he was about 7 weeks old in 2001. He was the runt of the litter, of an accidental breeding. Scooby was primarily my mom's dog, but I saw him each and every day. I grew up with him, and even though my connection with him wasn't as strong as with the others....I'm still shocked, and at a loss.

What happened to cause Scooby to go into respiratory distress, you ask? Well, three days earlier he had fallen off my parent's tall queen size bed. They didn't realize he'd been injured till the next day. My dad and I rushed him to the vet, and they determined he had a pulled muscle in his neck, and a herniated disk in his lower back. He came back home with two different medications.

They warned us that since he has heart problems (Congestive Heart Failure), the medicine could be an issue. We were very careful, and followed their specific instructions with great care. But, alas it just wasn't enough.

Scooby Doo was such a good boy, and my heart is in millions of pieces over the loss of him.

It really hasn't sunk in yet, that he's gone.

Please understand, that for the next couple of weeks, I'll be in a state of mourning and grief. So, art may be slow or nonexistent till I heal up from all this.

He was a Long Haired Chihuahua for those curious.

I'm so sorry to hear that.. my sister had a Pomeranian that looked like him named Toby, he had breathing problems due to an enlarged heart and a vet had tried getting us to put him to sleep but we didn't, got a second opinion to find his heart was too big so all it was, was when he got excited he would kinda hack and cough and stuff so we had to keep him calmed down and he lived until he was 12 years old.

So sorry to hear about your furry family member - praying for you and your family. My mom's dog died 2 years ago and she is still struggling with the loss - they truly are like family!

Thank you all for your kind words, it means the world to me!

Here's a collage of older pictures of Scooby from 2007-2011. Before he was diagnosed with heart problems. So, he's relatively healthy in all these pictures, and very happy.

So sorry fir your loss sib ... I know how it is to loose a fur baby ... two of the dogs I grew up with both had to be rushed to the vets and they passed away a few hours later after the vet tried everything they could do.
