Do you like Magical Realism at all? If so, I strongly reommend anything by Cecelia Ahern or Sarah Addison Allen!

I would highly recommend these:

Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (comedy/fantasy). (His other books are great too. Good Omens is a favourite of mine.) Very clever fiction. The books are set on a medieval-style fantasy world that is loosely a parody of our own, and often reference or parody a wide variety of fiction, folk-tales, ideas or concepts from our own world, and feature a wide variety of characters such as witches, wizards, city guards, Death and his granddaughter Susan, a reformed con-artist, a computer, an orang-utan librarian, the Luggage, soldiers, barbarians, trolls, a variety of city folk, a talking cat, a pharaoh, dragons, a turtle the size of a planet, and far too many others to name.

Elantra series by Michelle Sagara (fantasy/mystery). Set in a city in a fantasy world, it follows a young woman who is a sort of police officer/city guard as she investigates various mysteries/crimes in the city, as well as trying to figure out a mysterious magical force that seems to have a large influence in her life and past.

Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (fantasy/mystery, occasional adult themes, so not recommended for younger readers). Set in modern day Chicago, the basic premise is that magic, gods, and magical creatures are real but well hidden, such that most people don't know they exist. It follows a wizard detective/private investigator named Harry Dresden who investigates/battles supernatural disturbances/mysteries in the area.

Tomorrow When The War Began by John Marsden and the rest of the Tomorrow series (action/adventure/war teen-aged fiction). Set in Australia, the basic premise is that Australia gets invaded by an unspecified foreign power, and a group of teens who managed to avoid capture during the invasion unwittingly end up becoming guerrilla fighters to try to rescue their families, harry the enemy, and take back their town.

All of these series have quite a lot of books published, so it'll keep you busy for a while. The Discworld and Tomorrow series are complete.

I thought of more!

Tamsin by Peter S Beagle is one of my favorites. It is magic/supernatural/mystery/spooky. Old house and a cat.

Then, if you like the movie Labyrinth at all, The Hollow Kingdom trilogy by Clare Dunkle is really good, and there is a goblin king!

Lastly, The Knife of Never Letting Go is the first in a sci fi series I enjoyed  (and I am normally not big on series). Can't remember the author and the narration style takes some getting used to but it grows on you. The first book of the series is the best, but the whole thing is worth reading.

This is not at all in the genre you requested, but I'm currently listening to This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel on audible during my commute and I am loving it. It's about the human experience in a big, challenging way. Only an hour or two in and I'll definitely be ordering the physical book to stick on the shelf and reread.

*cough* The Night Keepers by Natika Peterman *cough*

Ugh would that I hadn't packed all the books I have read, I could make many suggestions, particularly in the fantasy genre. Ever read A Wrinkle In Time? Author is Madeline L'Engle (or something close to that, but packed and I'm on my phone so lazy XD). It's the book that the movie Disney is making is based on (hopefully it will be better then their last attempt, personal opinion).

Umm there's the classics like Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia of course. Inheritance Cycle by Christopher something that begins with a P. That's all I can suggest without my books in front of me XD

Yeah, I'd join a book club if there was one on here. Members could contribute reviews and recommendations to regular newsletters, or something like that.

I've really enjoyed reading the Divergent series. I think it's meant for people a bit older than me, but then again I've read the Harry Potter series 6 times XD. It's by Veronica Roth and I really like the perspective she writes in and the storyline is very exiting but can be a little scary at times :)

I'll recommend this book to you, because my friend wrote it. It may be a little too "young" for you. But I believe the genre is steampunk?

Take back the skies by Lucy Saxon
There's also other books in the series. It's all the same world but the characters don't connect.
