I know that a genetic re-roll has already been suggested; this would function similarly to that.
Since a number of breeders are seeking to produce stock that carry lower non-specialty stats (and since there's question in whether or not those can be bred down), it's sometimes challenging to find a horse that meets all your breeding requirements straight out of the EC. Because although a horse might meet your general conformation and color requirements, their stat spread might be geared best toward racing whereas you're breeding for dressage or vice versa.
I'd love to see a credit item or a higher fee-based solution that would allow you to "re-roll" the base stats on a foundation horse. It would still be a gamble because you don't know whether or not the new spread will be any better than what you started with (since you would not be able to allocate the spread yourself; it would be randomly generated just like they initially are), but it would potentially give you a chance to get a horse that fits better into your breeding program. You'd never end up with greater/less than 100 total stats, but the disbursement of those stats would change.
My thought would be that this can only be applied before a horse is trained for the first time (if a foal) or specialized in a discipline (if purchased at 3) as I think that would be easier coding-wise--although I admittedly don't know if it would matter at all. I also don't believe that this should be able to be applied to lined horses as it would defeat the purpose of having to breed selectively. Perhaps there should be a max number of times you can re-roll the base stats per horse?
EXAMPLE:
Light Up the Sky & Winter Sound
LUS base stats: 20 19 25 15 21 - 100 (best for show jumping, with a slight edge over driving - 60 racing non-spec vs. only 56 show jumping non-spec)
WS base stats: 26 19 12 16 27 - 100 (best for driving - 54 racing non-spec vs. only 47 driving)
***at these lower levels, those 4-7 specialty differences can have a decent impact on show success
These both have great conformation for foundations, and I was able to use coat randomizers to make them more attractive. My primary focus is on racing Thoroughbreds, and I would have much preferred to put them into my racing line--but neither would have been as competitive or successful due to their higher non-specialties relative to racing. If I could have spent a credit or two, or perhaps a sum of EVD to re-roll their base stats to see if I could get a better racing spread prior to training them, I would have been all over that.
Thoughts, input, questions, etc.?
