Breeding Young And Over-Breeding

#115931 Posted on 2017-07-29 09:45:22

I know that when buying horses, most people will flat-out refuse to buy it if it's been bred over a certain number or if it's been bred under a certain age. I don't really understand why it's such a turn-off other than possible inbreeding, but can someone explain it to me?

No one should be telling you how to play the game, you can do what you want to. However I think it would be wise to listen to other players - because that kind of input tells you whom is looking and potentially purchasing your horses. I have a massive line of Trakehners and at the moment have the foaling fever, but because they are still only 11 years old I am telling myself  everyday to wait a little bit longer.

If your breeding a low stats, good color to every horse under the sun at age three I would be questioning how widespread that horses lineage would go after he is retired and gone? There would be hundreds of more horses created and eventually tapering the breeding stock down because so many of those horses are related to one another (think widespread owner by x amount of people on the game), it would eventually hurt the breed for needing some new lines within the breed.

If it were a solid third generation stud with good background being selectively stud at age 12 that may be different. People are  going to want what they want, you just have to be conscious of the long term affects within that breed.

It is such turn off because it can be very difficult to find a horse that isn't related to a horse with overused lines.
For example, Paint Horse have this stud called "If Only" and he sired to 51 foals before Abbey fixed the loophole. For two weeks, nearly all 5 years old to foals that are up for sale or had been dumped in RC are related to If Only. It was bad enough but it doesn't end here. If Only also have a half-brother who sired 27 foals and an older half-brother who sired to 16 foals before passing away. If Only also have several more half-brothers who sired to smaller number of foals. However, they all are of Vegas Flight so all of those unwanted babies had Vegas Flight in their lines. Plus, older descendants already sired to their own foals. I think it is safe to estimate that Vegas Flight have over 100 living descendants right now...

It is getting frustrating because I couldn't find foals that aren't related to Vegas Flight. It can make breeding very difficult because of their lines are too widespread.
