Good Laptops brands?

#114404 Posted on 2017-07-15 22:19:12

So I've had my laptop for a little over 3 years now and its starting to become slow and having some problems with it, so I'm in the market for a new one( I was already wanting to get a new one this just gives me another reason to get one). I've only ever had this one which is an HP don't know any other detail for it cuz I just bought the one I liked the most probably a stupid move on my part. BUT now that I'm in the market for a new one I thought I might get others opinions on different laptops brands, I currently don't have a set price range in buying a laptop though hoping to not go over $900 on it.Tbh I know nothing about computers and that's one of the reasons I'm asking for opinions XD

The laptop would be used mainly for simple games like EV and maybe some MMORPG games but I'm not wanting to get a gaming laptop since those are WAY to expensive for my liking. I would also be using is for watching movies/Netflix (cause who needs a TV right), including a place to save all my photos and keep artwork on.

So what do you guys use or recommend

I'd Recommend the HP Pavilion, Model 15-au071sa, It retails between £300 - £400 ($392 - $523). It's my current laptop and works great, it's not a different brand but compared to others i do prefer HP, and find it a lot more reliable and easy to use.

I'm a HUGE Lenovo fan. Right now, I have an older Lenovo Yoga and it's been amazing. Prior to that, I had another Lenovo (broke due to my dog knocking it over).

I do recommend Macs, as I have one and am extremely happy with it, but the brand is not cheap either so it may not be the best fit in this case. Generally unless you're doing work or programs that run better on a Mac (such as creative software for design, image/video/audio editing, autoCAD, or something Mac-specific like creating iOS apps), a PC will probably fit your needs just fine and be more affordable.

Personally before I got into owning Macs I had good experiences with HPs, like Altair said. If you get a computer that has a little better specs than the average one they're pushing, it will last longer for you too. I recommend going for something with an Intel processor (not an AMD) because Intel processors perform better, which will end up giving you a faster computer. If you're interested in any kind of gaming you'll want that speed too, and you may want to be certain the graphics card is sufficient for what you'll be wanting to do. Other than that, it sounds like you'll need to be sure to have some hard drive space for your files. If you look at computers with a SSHD (solid state hard drive), be aware that the storage space on those can be smaller. SSHD cost more to produce so they tend to be smaller, but they don't break like traditional hard drives with a disk can, so they have some advantages. I'm sure if you go a store and talk over some of the things you're looking for with one of the people there, they can help guide you to a computer that will be a good fit. c:

I second HP, although my family has experienced some problems with them depending on the computer, their customer service has always been good.
Asus is another one that runs well but the laptop harddrives tend to quit at the 2 year mark, so be aware of that.

I've personally had terrible experience with toshiba, that may have just been the laptop that I had but it would crash very often and had a bunch of other seemingly random problems.
My family has also avoided having Dell computers because we hear too many horror stories about the customer service when the computer has a problem

@River
yes a PC would fit my needs if it didn't take up space, the house I like in now is small and I don't have a place a PC could be placed at without it taking up to much room. hence why I'm looking into buying a laptop and not a PC

Thank you everyone for the feed back, i'll be checking out the mac books, HP and any other that have been recommended

To clarify, by PC I mean a brand that is Windows-based and not a Mac. PC doesn't refer to a desktop computer specifically, it just stands for 'personal computer', and is generally used to refer to non-Mac computers nowadays. I wouldn't recommend a desktop to most people cause it's inconvenient. |D

Don't get a toshiba. They update all the time and sometimes freeze on updates. My laptop (a toshiba) freezes when I do art all the time. It is also not updating (constantly says it is 100% updated and I have to turn it off to log in).

I have a HP desktop and it works pretty well.
