Hi everyone! I've been playing this game for a few months now. I love it! I'm working on making horses the best they can be and I was hoping someone could explain how showing and training work together to bring the horse's stats up. I train all my horses everyday. I have a thoroughbred stallion that I feel like should be R5 by now but he's not. I'm working on three foundation horses too. How far can you get a foundation horse?Β

Also feel free to send me a friend request. I'd love to get to know some people on here 😊

Hi Star Struck! So, I think part of the reason your TB stallion isn't doing so well with stat gain is because he has a 111 non-racing-specific stats (so strength, agility, intelligence). This is likely due to two things. First, his dam also had a high number of non-specialty stats, which is likely why she was bread to a stallion that only had 27 non-specialty stats. Β Second, your TB stallion is being fed sugar cubes, which are a treat that gives stat increases to *any* of the stats.Β

The goal is to get those non-specialty stats as low as possible. The lower the non-specialty stats, the better the horse will show. Here's a visual:Β PragueΒ My stallion is trained in Show Jumping. I want his specialty stats - so speed and agility - to be focused on for treats. See how his non-showjumping/non-specialty stats are all 0? This means he has a much higher chance of placing in shows.

So! For your stallion I would suggest switching his treats to either discipline-specific treats such carrots (to increase speed) or turnips (to increase endurance). I'd probably start putting him in the riding school until you want to breed him, if you want to breed him. To help decrease all the non=specialty stats he's gains through treating sugar cubes and whatever else, you have the option to spend $10,000 to retrain him to a different discipline, then spend 2 credits to retrain him back to racing. This will redistribute his earned stats to be concentrated in endurance and speed, and will return his non-specialty stats back to whatever he was originally born with. :)

Ducky gives a great explanation on the basics about getting your horse show ready, if you want more information I have an extensive guide on how to successfully show your horse and the benefits and pitfalls over in This Topic.

And as to how far foundations can go. There was a recent topic here about foundations being up at 1000 stats by the time they were breeding age, so they can do pretty darn good if you keep going with them and be diligent at care and training.Β

Do you have a treat guide? What treats would be good for western horses?

Feather has given you the FAQ Answer and which treats will help for which disciplines, to know how all the different treats affect your horse's stats you can look through the Item Catalog.Β

You breed down. Basically, breed your horse to a horse in the same discipline, and make sure it also has less than 60 non-specialty stats so you can hopefully show your foal. Then, when that foal is of breeding age, breed it to a horse with lower non-specialty stats, and so on and so on.Β

Just remember: It takes TIME. I've got a few horses in my barn that have lower non-specialty stats, but only from hard work, time, and patience either from me, or the player who bred the horse. :)
