Perks of gelding?

#212862 Posted on 2019-11-08 21:24:21

The only reason I ever geld is if i get a horse that i did not realise was inbred, as i do not want my lines to be inbred at all.
With the horse market as slow as it is, its a way for me to manage my stock. That or its conformation has fallen below whatever goal I might have for a minimum when the foal is born.

I don't know who bumped this topic originally, but it's over three years old, lmao. It can probably just be deleted.

In the real world, geldings often perform better than stallions and temperamental mares. Their quieter nature makes them easier the manage, generally speaking. There are exceptions of course, maybe could add as a personality trait. So if a stallion isn't performing well enough by gelding him may or may not improve his performance so a chance trait. In other words its taking a risk. Mares could have a cycle suppressant to improve their performance capabilities.
