Why did you choose the breed/s you have?

#100611 Posted on 2017-04-10 18:43:03

There are several reasons why I chose to breed Gypsy Vanners, Arabians, Friesians, Miniatures, Morgans, Mustangs, and Clydesdale's.

#1 - I first started out with Friesians when I first joined EV 8 years ago, along with Appaloosas, and Belgian Drafts (now have been culled). I've always loved these magnificent horses and their sweet/gentle nature. ♥

#2 - Gypsy Vanners. *sighs* I was offered a father and daughter from a good friend of mine who quit a LONG time ago for free and I couldn't resist. I promised to take good care of them and a few of my Gypsy's stem off from that mare while I studded out her father. I just fell in love with this awesome breed and haven't stopped breeding them since. ♥

#3 - Arabians - I love, love, LOVE this breed! Been around them for a long time, as the Horse Farm I help out at raises them alongside their Appaloosas, and one boarder owns the silliest mare ever. They are just full of life, spirit, zest, and are so intelligent. I just love the way they look when they are moving, head thrown up naturally, neck arched, tail raised, and just enjoying the day. ♥

#4 - Morgans. About the same story as the Gypsy's, player was quitting, gave me a pair of Morgans, and at least one of my Morgans stem off from that pair. :) I just love how cute they are.

#5 - Mustangs, the symbol of the West, full of life, determination, and super smart. I've always love Mustangs, have lots of Mustang Breyer models that I grew up playing with, always wanted to adopt one someday (still do too!). I started with one foundation pair in 2009 and a couple of my current Mustangs go back to that pair. :3

#6 - Clydesdales, now that's an interesting story. I had sold all of my store horses that I culled out of my herds and unmasked my new project; The Chestnut Clydesdale Project. I am slowly buying Clydesdale's that are either Ee Aa, Ee AA, ee Aa, or ee AA. I am determined to also not have any with the Sabino marking at all, as in my opinion, the solid Clydes are prettier.

#7 - Miniatures; dang...... Okay. New breed. Like, just started breeding this year. I was just looking at random horses, came across the cutest Mini stud, and struggled not to start a new breed on top of my 5 other breeds. Sadly, I didn't exactly win that struggle, but well............. I think it's a Win-Win situation now, as I found that they can have ANY color, pattern, and marking combination; which is AWESOME. ♥

Now, how about you? Why did you pick the breed/s you are breeding now? :)

I chose Paints simply because I had so many of them. I buy horses based on show stats. I have other small requirements but basically any reasonably priced horse with great show stats I buy. After I'd been playing for a few months I realized I had enough Paints to start a breeding project, so I worked on pairing them up and a few weeks ago began my project! I mainly have FluffShady to thank, I don't even know if she's still active on here but I'm super grateful that she sold me some amazing Paints at prices affordable to a new player. I don't think I'd be as excited if I'd had to start from scratch with foundies. That's an appealing challenge for the future but for my first project it's awesome to be able to get beautiful colors and great stats out of the first generation.

i've always found arabians captivating in real life, and EV is no different.
plus, when i first joined i found an old RPing buddy here and she gave me a pair of arabian foals. I still have their descendants 2+ years later!

I chose Gypsy Vanners because I found their breed artwork to be the prettiest! I've tried breeding Mustangs, Shetlands, Minis, Percherons, Arabians, and Appaloosas, but as of now I have 158 Gypsy Vanners on this account and nothing else (I'm about halfway through my 'breeding season' but none of my horses have died yet so I've got all the new foals and the old adults, it's pretty hectic rn)

I chose Trakehners because we currently own an Oldenburg, and it seemed like the closest option. I've also thought they were really lovely to look at and work with.

Initially I chose my breeds based solely on how pretty the breed art was. I think I might have picked Friesians first, way back when I first joined, but when I discovered the available colours were realistic (as opposed to every available colour, as I've seen in some games) I sold my one store horse and looked for a different breed. I wanted to have some colour projects, so only two colour options wouldn't allow this to happen. Gypsies were my next choice as I love draft horses, even though the breed didn't have tons of colours at the time (I've been advocating for more ever since!). I quite like clydes too, but I really disliked the artwork prior to the recode and didn't have time to care for lots of horses until the new autocare features came in, so I stuck with just the gypsies up until recently when I picked up clydes as well. They have gorgeous artwork now, and their limited colours make them suitable for a particular colour project I've been wanting to try for a while.

I choose Welsh ponies since I love the breed and have a couple of them in real life as well.
I also love the art on the breed in this game, so no need to switch to anything else ;)

I started breeding minis for nothing but how awesomely amazingly cute they are. I first chose them when I started playing, and then after the recode I got started with chincoteagues, because of the amazing breed art they have. And just recently I realized how pretty the mustang breed art was, so mustangs, too. I've wanted to start up Gypsy Vanners for awhile, but I don't have the space, time, or money for a fourth breed.

*chuckles*

Which is why most of my horses are locked until I have time to work with them!

I started my Halfies (now Fries) because I bought one for my real life friend, who got me to join EV, as a gift. She didn't want it, so I kept it. Hence how I came to get and keep Hadass. If your interested you can read all about her and her line here. The most recent to come from the lines is Hadass's Lifetime who was born with 700 stats. Her parents were pre recode, so she'll be the first one in her line after the recode.

Tekes I started because of my former name being Wiki Tiki and, after saying how I wanted them because of that, Sab suggested I could call them Wiki's Tekes XD My two major lines are getting close to the time when they will merge. They are my Hawaiian themed ones (which I accidentally got 64 to start, instead of 32) and my Nancy Drew lined ones.

Shetlands, I honestly can't recall how I got into them, but I love the little fluffballs. I have a few small lines going and my Star Wars themed ones have often been chosen as club mascots!

I currently have four Vanners, because I really want to get into them, but I have tried before and just couldn't. Here's hoping that third times the charm (or fourth or whatever number I'm at XD).

I'll list mine.

1. Quarter Horses- My aunt raises and breeds quarter horses on a ranch (I spent half of my childhood over there), so I'm just naturally attached to the breed. Most of the horses at my parents ranch were Quarter mixes too.

2. Paint- I love the roan on this breed, and have a small attachment to them that makes 0 sense. I got ran over by a paint horse when I was little, my dad bought me a toy that looked like the horse (probably to try and keep me from becoming afraid of the horse) I got attached to said toy, and started to like the breed. Weird, I know.

3. Minatures- they are small and cute with many colors and patterns.

Breeds I would like to do if I had the room consist of
Gypsy Vanners (especially if we get drum horses in the future), Shetlands, and Mustangs.

Thoroughbreds: I've always loved the breed/racehorses in general, plus my first 3 EV horses were of this breed, so I've stuck with them

Chincos: I got a nicely-colored one from the RC, and then another nicely-colored one from the equine center + a color randomizer, so I bred them... plus they're an interesting breed irl

Shetlands: they're just super cute ^.^

Arabians: I don't plan on breeding these anymore once I get my goal, as they have very few colors and aren't personally connected to me in any way

@ Surly - What breeds do you have at the moment? Can you please list why you chose the breeds you have now? :)
