Hi everyone, Abbey here.

I bring some unfortunate news: Equiverse will no longer be receiving development time.

I hope to clarify everything in this post, but if there are any questions, I will try to answer them in the comments.

This may not be a surprise to some of you, but others may be blindsided - and for that I'm sorry. Equiverse has seen a several year decline of activity and revenue, and it is no longer financially viable for development to continue. I personally no longer have the time to work on it as a passion project.

Equiverse will stay online - as is - for as long as it can afford its hosting and domain fees. Assuming it can continue to bring enough revenue to support this, it will remain running as it currently is. If it cannot make the revenue to keep itself hosted, it will be closed. I will try to give warning ahead of time if this happens.

How We're Leaving Things

I will be coding an automated news posting system that posts the event news when each event rolls around. I believe there is also a recurrent issue with "ghost" backgrounds and items getting stuck on deceased horses - I will be making the tool to fix this available for member use.

Moderation

River will no longer be admin of the game. The moderators have been asked whether they would like to stay moderating, and there has been a mixed response so far - we will see what happens.

I don't wish to put any pressure on the mods, it's truly their decision - but just to inform: if they were to choose to step down from moderating, then I would be closing the forums, private messages, and any other place in which a player could post rule-breaking content. Even if activity truly dwindles, I don't want any player feeling harassed or uncomfortable on the game.

Support

Support for the game will mostly cease. Any bugs that are discovered will be left unfixed, any items or horses that get stuck in trades or shows will not be able to be released.

If a player tries to return to the game but is unable to retrieve their login details, they will instead be encouraged to create a new account. If account activation is unsuccessful, they will be encouraged to try a different email address, but ultimately there will be no further support for account loss and sign up.

Support *will* continue for EV Credit purchases as I have a legal requirement to ensure that paying customers are able to access their purchased goods - or receive a refund.

The Future and Other Projects

I am not planning to sell Equiverse because there is the potential that some time, far in the future, I will revisit it in a different format. This is not a promise - I don't want to ignite any false hope - but it's something that has been briefly considered. For that purpose, it would be useful to maintain copyright holder of the assets and systems in place, particularly the game's art.

Some of you may be aware of the other games that I have created with friends and colleagues, but if not, then allow me to introduce you to Lioden and it's sister game, Wolvden.

End of an Era

Equiverse was my first sim game. It began as "Winners", and then had a rename to the much more palatable "Equiverse". The game was first launched in 2006 - nearly 18 years ago!

We've had a lot of ups and downs, a couple of recodes, multiple iterations of breed art, many different showing systems, and plenty more that has changed significantly since we first launched. It's been a truly wonderful journey all the way through.

I would like to thank River for stepping up as admin over the past few years, and for continuing to push for development on the game in that time.

I would also like to thank the moderators that have continued to remain active over the course of the past few years - and indeed Equiverse's lifetime itself.

Finally, I'd like to extend thanks to the players who are still continuing to come and play, who have taken the time to suggest ideas, and stuck around for improvements. I am very grateful for each and every one of you.

Comments

Given some time to process the news, I just want to say thank you all for the memories.

Ev has been my sim home since 2014, and would have been sooner if I had found it before then. I've made so many lifelong friends here, both as a player and as a moderator throughout the years. Even during times where I've had to step away for a bit, I can't help but linger in the background.

It hurts to see that development is coming to a close, I completely understand that some people may not want to stick around after this news post, though I appreciate everyone who is wanting to keep it alive as long as possible.

Thank you all for being a wonderful and supportive community. It's been a pleasure to be a part of and I hope I continue to see your friendly faces in years to come, be it here or elsewhere ♥

This is sad news. I understand where you are coming from and strongly recommend maybe considering other options. If you were to lease the rights to a larger game host, you may be able to get more involvement. It's hard to tell because for years other horse games show up on Facebook all the time, but I have never once seen people talk about equiverse. Maybe as a community the players need to change this ;). Prayers it stays up for a long time and gets a new flame.

Thank you to all who have held this game down.

I'm sorry to hear this.

This game is a sacred gem of nostalgia.

I'm currently on fall break but please don't take this simulator away I love this simulator the way it is. But after fall break I will come back to this game and it is only two weeks that I won't be on for. I will try to get some people to start playing this sim when I return.

Oh man, this news is soo hard to hear. I really didn't see this coming at all, especially with the new updates. I've been playing the game for years and I'll be playing until the bitter end. I hope that end is very far away.

So sad to hear this. Iā€™ve played EV since 2011 and have loved watching it develop and grow. I found this game shortly after my prior sim closed. Although itā€™s not the news I wanted to hear, I appreciate the heads up. Thereā€™s nothing worse than hoping to go home to your sim and finding it gone.

Abbey and River thank you so much for all that youā€™ve done for the game. Additional thanks to Maple for being a constant presence on the forums. Always grateful for what you and all the mods have done to keep the community a friendly place. Hereā€™s hoping the remaining time is pleasant and that the game continues on ♥

Thank you for all the fun years! I was 10 when I first started playing this game, and it was the reason that I had my first (and so far only :P) horse riding lesson. If that one small experience was all EV had done for me I'd be happy, but it's also provided me with hours and hours of entertainment and some lovely chats with people.

I hope that info on the running costs of EV is revealed at some stage, a lack of future updates isn't an issue at all for me but the uncertainty of if EV will run out of money in a month or five years isn't ideal.

Anyway, thanks for a decade (and hopefully more) of fun!

This is very sad news indeed.

While I feel this was probably preventable and could still be remedied so that EV could thrive, it is what it is. Players have been making suggestions to improve the game for years and you get out of something what you put into it. With very few updates to the game and nowhere near the amount of work put into it in recent years as you see with other games, this was probably inevitable. Still, it will be sad if the game someday vanishes completely.

I've Read everyone's Comments and I was about to cry! This is SO Unfortunate! I've been playing this since 7th-8th grade and now I'm a freaking Junior in High School Also! So I've been playing this for a coming up 6 years (11/20/21 Is when i started). I hadn't been so active lately bc of freaking school. And I loved this game FROM DAY 1! The community of Teens and Adults here are so nice! This is is for River and Abbey, You two were the best people providing ALL OF THE UPDATES ever since it released 18 years ago!! I hope this game does not die out in the coming years! I hope we get a new Moderator who is nice just like River was! I feel that this is inevitable and sad! But I REALLY Hope that everyone still sticks around along with this game!!! GOD BLESS THIS GAME AND THE MODS!!!!!

O.K.R.

I actually JUST found out this game was even a thing. I have longed for the developers of LD to make a horse game and it actually existed all along.

I truly hope this game kicks up again, the art and site is just beautiful and from what I have seen, so are the people.

I hope people continue to buy credits and such to keep this site going, I know that when I am able to, I definitely will be doing so ! Hopefully this game can become active again as far as updates and such. I am definitely going to be sharing it around to anyone looking for a 2D horse game !

Abbey, thank you for keeping EV up all this time. My first ever horse sim game was Horseland and when that changed I went on the hunt for another home and tried so many other games. When I found EV it was more than finding the perfect horse sim, this website changed me (for the better I hope lol) and allowed me to grow into who I am today. I haven't been on in a couple years because life got crazy and I might not be able to come on all the time but I am going to come on every time I can until the end. Thank you to all my wonderful friends on here, and again Thank you Abbey.
