Meet Gabriel

#78991 Posted on 2016-12-10 10:11:27

I want to show my new guy, Gabriel (name means Angel of the Moon). He is one of my Fallen Angels, and his original design was done by Laney. Revamp, with a few minor additions and add-ons are by me, lineart free to use.

Gabriel is gender-less, but identifies as "he". His necklace holds the energy of the Moon, and contains stardust that gravitates in swirls around the orb hanging from a chain of crystalized silver dust. His eyes are void of pupils; he is blind in the daylight but sight is unlimited in the darkness.
Gabriel relates most to my other Fallen Angel character, Blue Ghost, as both are bound to the night and limited greatly in the sun.

Annnd I just noticed I saved the version that isn't showing the credits of the line artists (fixing that ASAP).

I still need a lot of improvement in terms of the realism of markings (face markings, etc). Any advice on this is greatly encouraged and appreciated!

Thanks you two ♥
Laney chose beautiful colors for this design, I agree!

oh my gosh, he is to die for. gorgeous designs and colors and, ugh, everything.
literal perfection. i usually don't go for unnatural colors like that, but it looks perfect. fits well.

Ooh his reference makes him look nice and snazzy!
How do you mean about making the markings look more realistic? Are you wanting to change the markings a bit or the edges or what? Because if it's the edges I have a brush I use that I can dig up later to send to you.

Eee, thank you Eliza! I mean the edges. I find the edges of my white markings look painted/slapped on, and I see a few excellent artists on here (you being one) who can draw markings on horses with a very realistic take on it (ex: pintos and paints are the death of me because I find my recolors look like 5 year old messy paintings). I think my edges are too sharp, so I will often blur the edges, but then I find that it makes the result look like it's poor quality, with little to no improvement :(

Awh thank you for the compliment ♥
I figured that's what it was, they can be a pain. Tomorrow I should have some time to dig that brush up, it's part of a pack that has appy and bird catcher spots. So if you have a pack like that you may actually have it lol
It's just a single appy spot that's haloed, the halo edge leaves just enough of a texture to fade the line. I set the brush settings to have it stagger a little and turn as I stroke, though that's with Photoshop settings so if you're still using gimp I'm not sure if it will still work unless I can somehow affix the settings to it and save it like that. I'll look into it.

while you guys are talking about this, i discovered recently I have the same issues. it's not just you, frosted. i don't even try paint/pintos any longer. i have several brush packs for practically every horse marking and i usually am one to mess with settings a lot and blur the edges on them, but then it still looks terrible. i feel your pain.

Thanks, ED! Leah, the struggle is real... at least for some of us XD
Hopefully some day I get the hang of it ;)

Thanks silver! However, I can barely catch up on my own character revamps, and design/character refs don't come easy for me. But I appreciate the kind thoughts :3

I got home early today so I had time to dig it out :D Since others may like the brush as well I'm posting here instead of just messaging you.
Unfortunately I found out that the original creator of the brush has since deleted everything on their Deviantart profile, though thankfully I was able to track them down so they can still be properly credited.
Here's the link, it includes both the brush and a guide on how to set it up for GIMP
If anyone is using photoshop, all you have to do is load it in and it should be all ready to go.

Eliza - thank you!! I will play with this tomorrow. I'm so excited about the possibility of improving at markings omg. It's been a long haul in terms of digital art and battling with my limitations at recolors because of it XD
Thank youuuu♥
