Horse pastel drawings!

#9748 Posted on 2016-02-25 12:49:42

Hey all! I wanted to share my recent drawings with you! ^.^ I'm much better at traditional than I am at digital haha. These are all done with oil pastels on black/white paper. Please don't steal these photos, thank you.

First up is a draft horse I drew a week ago. It IS finished now, but I don't have a photo...oops.

And here is the horse from the above drawing. I took this photo myself whilst out walking. Such a beautiful Shire from my local riding center. :)

I didn't use a reference for this one, so I'm hoping it resembles a Belgian Draft. LOL. Probably not, but he's pretty, right? ;)

Finally, this is from today! As you can see there is a floating horse head and then a messy sketch of a much smaller horse underneath. I plan this to resemble 'a God among men.'

Since I'll be drawing a horse for my final art exam in three months time, i'd love some feedback on ways on ways to improve. :p ♥ Or any feedback, actually!

Those are beautiful! I love the drafty with the green blanket. I worked with oil pastels for my first time for my art mid term and I love working with them. All of yours look amazing :)

Thank you, Cat! I love working with oil pastels. ♥ I had a go at painting but it just wasn't the same. T_T

Where did you get your pastels, and what brand are they? These are wonderful!

I forgot about this post. :O

The pastels I used in the drawings above are Study Time Oil Pastels. They belonged to my school. Whilst they were great to use at the start I needed something better, so a month ago I went and bought my own, and they are so, so much nicer! I now use them all the time. They are called Pastel A L'huile. I'll post an example of a piece I drew with them below. :)

Oh, and I also use Daler-Rowney Oil Pastels! They a lot cheaper than my others so I use them for sketching and doodles. It's like owning a really expensive dress and a frock but only using the dress for fancy occasions.

Pastel A L'huile example (of course i'm not fantastic so don't assume this is the best these pastels can do lol). I also have another example, and I think it's quite good - only it is my exam piece so I'm not allowed to take photos just yet!
