Appaloosa Breeders! I Need Your Help!

#91647 Posted on 2017-02-07 20:41:00

Ok Appaloosa breeders! I would like to have a few questions for you!

I have only bred a couple of foals and my Appy herd is currently locked up (for the most part). I Do have a few questions for you guys that do Appy and do Appy well :D

1.) How is the market for horses that don't have markings? (I prefer solid or Overo.)
2.) Do Silver, Dun, Champagne, and Cream do well on the market?
3.) What specialty is the most common? (I certainly think it's Western.)
4.) Do any other Appy breeders try to breed for solids or anything except Leopard?

I can't give an expert opinion on all of those since I'm new to the breed. But Western is definitely the most popular (there's a pretty good number in SJ also, but Western is still more common).

I'm also going to be breeding solids, along with paint markings. I personally don't like actual Appaloosa patterns so I'm treating them almost as if they're Paint or Quarter Horses.

1. Most people really like the paint patterns they now come in (splash, tobiano, overo, etc) and there's a decent market for solids as long as they have modifiers (cream, silver, dub, flaxen, etc)
2. Yes, most certainly!
3. It's western, but like Wicked said: there's a decent show-jumping community out there. Myself included, though my now tiny herd has shrunk considerably.
4. Yep! I breed away from appaloosa patterns whenever possible. Spotted blanket is the exception; otherwise i feel like they cover up most of the horse with plain white rather then showing off the other colors that i'm breeding for.

I know myseld i prefer solids or paint patterns only no grey.
Im gonna do western, but i do have racing appies as well.

I strive for roan.
I myself breed for paint markings or solid, but mostly roan. Hate few spot and leopard.
But i do have two custom appies that are a major set of genetics that im gonna mess around with. They look grey but theyre actually not, but theyre supposed to have pink muzzles but the art latering is wronf.

So happy to see another person interested in the appys! woot woot..

1. There are actually quite a few people who prefer solids , as well as the paint markings on the appys..
2. Silver, Dun Champagne, flaxen etc...do very well indeed..
3 Western is by far the most common, followed by show jumping.. endurance, dressage, racing and driving.
4. I have quite a few solids, I usually breed for the RL ApHC recognized colours but I do have quite a few of the mixed appy/paint patterned pons aswell. ( if they're available in the game, why not! lol)
