Riverdale?

#90834 Posted on 2017-02-03 09:26:34

Has anyone on here started watching that new show Riverdale on The CW? I watched it last night, thinking it was the first episode, but it was actually the second. XD Luckily I was able to quickly catch on to what happened in the first episode.
Anyway, I wanted to start watching it solely because I saw that Cole Sprouse would be in it, and he's one of my favorite actors from my childhood, and is even more phenomenal now.
I'd love to have some fan friends that I can talk about it with. I have a feeling I'm going to be really obsessed with this show soon. XD

It finally came out?? I heard about it a while ago. It's based on Archie Comics right?

Yes and yes. First episode was last week. It shows Thursday nights at 9/8 central.
On the comics part; I watched it with my parents last night, and since they're more familiar with the Archie comics, I asked if the characters were close or not, and they thought they were all pretty spot-on, and the relationships between them were right as well. So that's really good. :)

I haven't seen it but I'm pretty excited. I read a very large portion of the Archie comics growing up. The actor you like even plays my favorite character, Jughead.

I have been on the fence about watching it, because I do love the comics so much, but maybe I will now put it on my watch list :)

I'm sorry but I refuse to watch Riverdale. It looks like the vampire-less version of Vampire Diaries. Everything is dark and dreary. Archie is a light-hearted and silly comic, with some serious undertones. I'm also concerned about... adult themes being hyper-present in the tv series when they're nearly nonexistent in the comics. Like Jughead... bet you they'll shack him up with some chica when he spends most of his time avoiding females and hunting down food. Archie is my favourite comics series and I refuse to let the CW ruin it for me.

You can also find the series on Netflix!

So far I'm loving it, but as c j said, it's a bit of a stretch from the comics. But as a TV show, I think it has potential so far.

I watched the first episode and I have to say it's not my thing. Making Miss Grundy that young and having that story with her and Archie... that and a few other things (Mary and Fred separated, the Blossoms being the ruling family of Riverdale so to speak, Josie being so... snarky I guess is the word I'm looking for and many others just in the first episode I could list) are just going to keep me from watching it any more... but enjoy it, it's just not for me when I love the comics so much XD

Yeah I know what you mean, the bit with Ms. Grundy was a bit of a shock to me, too. I was kinda like "oh, okay? Ms. Grundy is young?" but then they threw in that scene of them in the car and my jaw literally dropped, and I may or may not have scolded Archie through my screen xD I'm not a fan of their relationship AT ALL, and I hope it ends soon. Romantic teacher x student relationships in TV shows/movies/etc. honestly just make me cringe so hard.

There are lots of things that are different from the comics, but writers often change or add things when creating shows based on novels or other pieces of work. Take Heartland, for example. Mallory doesn't exist in the books but she was added to the show to make it more interesting. Also I kind of liked how sassy Josie was! Justin Gingerlake made me snort haha. I guess it's kind of like... you have to watch this without thinking about the comics? Even though they've got the character names and some of the personality traits of the comic characters, this is like a darker version of the comics, with real life thrown in there. I feel like if they'd just taken every aspect of the comics and turned it into a live action TV show it wouldn't be as interesting?
